Dead Space 2 Multiplayer Revealed

23Earlier this week we brought you the news that the Dead Space 2 multiplayer was due to be revealed shortly. From reading the comments, one of the concerns was that any multiplayer mode would dilute the tension and scares that the single player game provides. Well the trailer is out, and it’s looking great – we reckon there will still be scares aplenty.

So is this 4 player co-op/ deathmatch?
Not completely sold on this yet. If it had just been co-op throughout game, I’d be up for that.

From what I got from the trailer, this isn’t really deathmatch, but rather a elimination type of game. The engineers have to remain alive for x time, and the necromorphs must kill the four of them, although, when they die, they respawn.

To me, it looks a lot like Left 4 Dead’s Versus mode, with necromorphs instead of zombies. Not a bad thing. Far more inventive than the free for all death match i was expecting.

I’m a little on the fence regarding this aspect of the game, looks fun enough but I can’t see myself spending a lot of time with it, I hope it’s amazing and I love it though.
I’m beginning to get a slightly worrying feeling that this game won’t live up to the first one (for me personally). I’m still looking forward to it but time will tell.

Me too, i’m hoping they haven’t forgotten what made Dead Space work but it seems to me like this multiplayer aspect might just be intended to give them some leverage over the pre-owned market. I can’t see any other reason for it as it doesn’t belong in this game imo.

I am currently playing the first one and up to chapter 4 and its one of the finest single player games i have played this gen . If and when i get the sequel i will damn well be playing right to the end of the story mode before touching MP so that nothing is spoiled .
Normally its the other way around and i’ll play MP before SP but this games is so bloody good . The music deserves and oscar for the tension created.

Picking it up tomorrow after having a go on it at a friends house a couple of weeks ago, can’t wait. With getting to level 50 on bc2 and the demons souls plat out of the way, wipeout HD and dead space will be having my attention.

Doesn’t look at all atmospheric or scary. Maybe a little fun, but nothing different to anything else, really.

Looks brilliant, would make for a great horde/arena mode.
Was worried when Uncharted went multiplayer and had the same feelings about this, but Uncharted2 multiplayer is great(except the awful lengthy, live-sync update process), especially the co-operative play, so I think this will go the same way… a great single player campaign and the option of multiplayer for people who want it.

I don’t mind people having options but for me the Dead Space experience is about being isolated and on your own, unlike UC2 which was more character-driven and you often had people fighting alongside you in the main story.
I should probably reserve judgement until we know more but it doesn’t feel right to me atm.

indeed looks kinda like the versus mode in left 4 dead….
one team are the survivors and the others are the necromorphs
4 on 4…
could be fun if it is done well… but personally would like it more if they also put some normal coop modes in it…
i guess i’ll just have to wait and see :3
i’m probebly gonna buy it for the single player only already… so the rest is just extra :P
