Outrun Run Out of EU PSN

It seems that Outrun, the sideways-cornering arcade point-to-point racer, has been pulled from the EU (and AUS) PSN Stores. A comment in a thread over on GAF alerted us to the unfortunate fact that it has gone from the UK PS Store and there were a few later comments confirming that it was also removed from Swedish and Australian PS Stores.

We’ve just checked and can add our own confirmation to the list. We can also say that if you already purchased the game it should still be available via your download queue.

We have no idea why this might have been removed, our speculation ranges from “Perhaps licences clashed with Ferrari: The Race Challenge” to “I was just too awesome at it and I broke the scoreboard”. Whatever the reason, it’s not there any more.

  1. Maybe a 3d version is going to be released soon which costs more.

  2. Over on the PS blog, Mike Kebby says the publisher requested that they removed it and he doesn’t think it’ll be coming back which sounds worrying.

  3. Now that means it isn’t on any Playstation store, was it removed from Xbox too or would it be for liencising Ferrari?

    Weird!?

  4. I love that game, got it day one! We need more classics coming back, say ChaseHQ mentioned, loved that on my speccy!

  5. Considering Microsoft were seemingly behind the US Store not getting this title(In a baffling move I recall reading at the time) I wonder if they were somehow behind this, seeing as the 360 version seems unaffected. Couldn’t even begin to understand why if so, or why Sega would remove a game from digital distribution for any reason tbh, but either way, glad I have it already.
