GT5 Gets Nighttime Nürburgring

We’re hoping for a new release date today, but in the absence of anything solid, here’s another juicy rumour for the pile: Gran Turismo 5 will feature the Nürburgring – at night.

Yes, the sleuths have been out in force this morning, picking up on a photograph of Yamauchi driving around a nighttime course with part of the on-screen map seeemingly deliberately hidden.

Here’s the photo, which is from Esquire magazine:

See where the arrow’s pointing to?  It’s blacked out. Why? Well, GTPlanet member Scope72 thinks that track is the infamous German course, the GP course, which is pretty much confirmed in this shot.  Does that mean we’ll get a full 24 hour race on what Jackie Stewart dubbed the Green Hell?

Of course, GTPlanet have mentioned this a while back, but the image is new, so we reckon that’s the first shot of the nighttime course.

If so, Gran Turismo 5 just became even more unmissable.  We can’t wait.

  1. Every course is a night-time course if you turn down the brightness. You possibly don’t want to know how I create wet weather races.

      • Its Friday, I am in a very good mood. Tbh its worked out well for us all as we have so many amazing games….

        GT5 coming out later is better, plus I have 2 weeks off at Christmas so I can give it some right ‘pasty’

        Come on, imagine how good its gonna be when you get that brand new game smell and its all the better as it GT5.

        You know it makes sense….

        GT5 has gone gold, its being pressed, soon every friend on you list will have GT5 hovering around their PSNID..

  3. Is this a surprise? I thought there was day and night across the board so all the tracks can potentially be played at night.

    • Well I swear we’ve heard about 24hour racing n the ‘ring, and also 24-hour has day/night cycles.

      But hey, nice to know I haven’t dreamed things up.

      • Yes, perhaps the story wasn’t worded properly. I meant, as far as I can see, this is the first shot of the Ring at night.

        I probably imagined it, about there being 24 hour racing on the ‘ring.
        At least it’s not a review of press releases.

    • I heard this too. Isn’t it the same with the dynamic weather system. Would be good to have an 24 endurance race round the nurburgring, as long as it’s not in something like the Mazda MX5!

  4. As far as I am concerned GT5 can be delayed as much as Polyphony want as long as the delay is to improve the game and not for some silly reason. A worthwhile delay in the long run is better for the quality of the game rather than rush it out with problems.

    • I would rather wait to get a finished game with no or very few bugs etc. than have a game released on time wich is full of them, like NFS: Shift.

  5. I just noticed, the smallest piece of equipment in that photo is actually the PS3. Seems kinda crazy

    • I really want his whole setup. That adjustable chair, wheel/screen mount is awesome.

      • Yeah but you could probably buy several real track experiences with that kinda money

  7. How small is Kaz? That’s a 3.5″ drive next to him on the floor on its side.

    • & a 17″ monitor!

      • I can’t see him as anything but tiny anymore.

  8. Love the fact that the dev kit(?) is black and flat like a DVD player or such, so it can easily fit under a monitor, unlike the old 360 one which was basically a 360 with a tall hat that needed its own space.

    • Dev kit? The PS3 is tucked behind the TV to the right of the picture.

      • That big box next to kaz’s feet, that’s teh dev kit, connected to the PS3 & possibly a PC, saves burning to a disc all the time, can simply run off the dev kit (I believe)

  9. Sweet. Anyone care to enlighten me why we’re expectin a release date today. Have Sony said they’re announcing it today?
    Also, right about now, the mail man should have been delivering GT5 to us all. :(

    Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America “Yeah, (Kazunori Yamauchi) came out with a comment that they are working on a few last things. He apologized to the community, but explained it is coming before Christmas. We haven’t put a date to that yet, but we will just as soon as we get word from him when he’s done.”

    Excuse me? When he’s done!?!?

    • Man still not ready and still working on it Nooooooooooo.
      Would like to know when he spoke to Peter, was it yesterday, a week ago?
