Activision being sued for countless millions? Good lord, that hasn’t happened for at least a week. The boys in Activision Legal were probably enjoying the peace and quiet.

This week’s claimant is Axl Rose, lead singer of Guns n’ Roses and all round rock god. Axl, bless him, had a little tiff with Slash and the Smoking Gun ax-master left Guns N’ Roses. Since that day, Axl has made sure that Slash is not associated with the GnR brand.

Fast forward to the creation of Guitar Hero III and Axl was asked if ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ could be included on the game. Axl agreed so long as a certain top-hatted ex Guns N’ Roses guitarist was nowhere to be seen. Let’s take a look at the Guitar Hero III artwork shall we?

Whoops.

Axl has now filed a $20 million lawsuit against Activision for “wrongfully acquired profits.” According to court documents, Axl Rose heard an internet rumor that his former band-mate may be associated with the game before being told by executive vice-president of Music Affairs, Tim Riley, that “You know you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.”

    • Ah, America. A litigious society where everyone sues everyone else. I’m surprised people can even get on with their lives as I assumed they were all busy in court.

      • Thats offensive! I’m suing you for emotional distress.

    • When Axl kept the Dublin crowd waiting for nearly two HOURS before coming on stage, they gave him a traditional Irish welcome.

      Bottles to the face.

Ran off stage after two songs.

      • Oh, you don’t wanna mess with the Irish, firey lot them. Guess Axl had to lear it the hard way… which actualy sounds pretty entertaining lol.

  5. Damn, this rules out the chance of a Guitar Hero: Guns n’ Roses :(

As much as he is a great musician, Axl Rose is a twat.

Fun fact: Axl Rose is an anagram of ‘Oral Sex’

  6. I bet the agreement was that Slash wouldn’t appear on the song ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ as a member of the band with no mention whatsoever of the cover art – I doubt that Activision would risk a lawsuit over going back on what they agreed to, it’s probably that Axl or the lawyers or whatever didn’t read (or fully understand) the agreement. I suspect that Acti have this eventuality covered in some way in the small print.
Slash made GnR what it was back in the day anyway. They weren’t the same when he left (buckethead? What was that all about?).

  8. Was it actually Slash in the same? or a likeness?

    • Its Slash. He’s actually in the game as Slash, they bought him to the studio and put all that movement capture hardware stuff whatever you call it on him. You can unlock the ‘in the making’ videos in game if I remember correctly

  9. Well Axel probably owes a lot in fines for no shows and when he did make it on stage arriving very late and running past the curfew.
