It has been announced that the fantastic GT5 has sold over 5.5 million units worldwide – taking twelve days to do so. The press release read as follows:
“As of December 6, more than 5.5 million units of Gran Turismo 5 have been sold worldwide. Gran Turismo 5 will further continue to contribute to the expansion of the PS3 platform.”
This revelation was part of a wider press release to celebrate the fact the Gran Turismo franchise has sold in excess of 60 million units. Amazingly GT5 Prologue has sold over 5 million units, and GT PSP has found a home with nearly 2.5 million of you.

So what’s that? 1/7th of the install base in 2 weeks? More if you consider how many PS3s are bought as replacements, or second consoles.

Congrats to PD. Their fan-base is as happy as 5.5 million pigs in 5.5 million tons of poo. If they can elevate this “sim” into an accessible “game” for the rest of us, it’ll be even more impressive when they release GT6.

Impressive sales but you have to wonder how many people actually liked it and how many are going to trade it in. I suspect the churn rate will be rather high compared to Blops.

I love this game it looks beautiful…. But…. What is with all the Jagged shadows! It puts me off playing so much that I might have to trade it. A proper let down IMO :(

Once again, I can only go with what the PR says “Over 5.5 Million Units of Gran Turismo®5 Sold Worldwide 12 Days After Release.”
However, it may just be Sony wordplay again, so Ill find out.
