Official PlayStation App Announced

As previously reported, a PlayStation Application will soon be available to download for your iDevice and Android phone.  The only caveats are your iDevice needs to be running OS 4 or higher, and your Android device needs to be running OS 1.6 as a minimum.

This free app will allow you to:

  • Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
  • Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
  • Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
  • Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

The first version (1.0) will be available in the following countries: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands.  Sony is working on the next version that will support most SCEE countries and languages, and will also let you comment on PlayStation.Blog.

There are “tons” more features planned, so stay tuned!

  1. Sweet! Any speculation on a date?

    • “very soon” is what they are saying.

  2. “and your Android device needs to be running OS 1.6 as a minimum”

if your Android isn’t 1.6, root it

    • I have no idea about Android phones, so I thought it best to cover all bases!

    • If your Android isn’t 1.6, bin it!

  3. They need to get messaging in this thing!

    • I agree, it will be much easier than using the pad to message. I still want an app that lets me use my iPhone as the PS3 keyboard over bluetooth.

  4. Perfect. There’s a couple good one on the store at the minute, but an official one will hopefully raise the bar. Let’s hope some if the planned features include messaging etc. I can see some good opportunities to further the scope of PS Plus here; queue downloads and the like.

    Sent from my iPhone

    :-)

  5. Can’t we do most of that online anyway? Am I being a total pleb? (maybe)

Why not include loads of features that you can ONLY access on your PS3 at the moment. Sorry if I have this completely wrong. :-\

    • I agree, I wasn’t expecting to be playing minis on my phone but I at least thought it might have something a bit more than we can already do through the browser.

    • I thought this, seems a bit pointless at the moment! There is the promise of “tons” more features though, so hopefully things like messaging will come eventually.

  6. Man I know I don’t have the most popular phone , but where is the Nokia love Sony. I would love to get a Android phone though but not to bothered…

    • I’m thinking the Nokia love went out the window during Sonys annual “Steps we can take to try and kick Nokias ass on the mobile device market”-meeting

    • Nokia? sony own sony erricson! nokias HUGEEE rival :)

  7. I don’t get, why the need to translate EVERYTHING at Sony. Fine the app isn’t ready in 332 languages, then just release an English version for the rest. But at least this can be “tricked”.

  8. Oooooo yes. This will only contribute to my ever increasing OCD Tye love for Playstaion :-)

    **readys iPhone**

  9. Awesome, the fact they’re making it available free is really cool too. I paid £1.19 last year for iTrophies app which does similar stuff, Ill be sacking that app off for this though

  10. Nevermind versions for other languages, where’s the BlackBerry version???

    • Or how about Sony Ericsson phones?

      • Sony Ericsonn is Android, and Blackberry is losing market share ridiculously fast

      • Blackberry losing market share fast? While bbm is free, students will flock to it. Every single one of my students has a blackberry and i don’t see that changing.
