Karl Stewart, Global Brand Director for Crystal Dynamics, has recently confirmed that Tomb Raider will be the next franchise to undergo the PlayStation 3’s “HD Classics” treatment. His tweet read:
Yes, it’s official. #TombRaider PS3 ‘Trilogy’ pack coming in the new year. Full details next week. Watch this space.
According to a German Amazon listing for the title, it will launch on March 22nd 2011, and will include Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and Tomb Raider Underworld. The PlayStation 3 version of Tomb Raider: Underworld debuted only a couple of years ago, and received a trophy patch in 2009. Though a solid game, it was knocked for its uninspiring visuals, something which may be rectified when it re-releases next year. There is also the hovering question as to whether the Trilogy will also include the controversial Underworld DLC, which is currently exclusive to the Xbox 360.
All three games will include trophy support, with the collector’s edition also bagging fans some exclusive PlayStation Home goodies. Amazon has listed the game at thrity Euros.

Don’t get the point in this, but hey the more games the better?
FoxHoundGabe
bah, i thought it would be the FIRST trylogy, TR2 is still my favourite.

I thought it was the first 3 games too when I read the headline. I would love to play those again.

From what I gather it is to costly to remake PS1 titles so I don’t expect to see them. Its only PS2 games that get the HD treatment because its only a case of adding a HD filter over the top and tweaking the framerates etc. PS1 games would have to be re done because of the much lower polygons used :)

I think the first two TR games are available on the PSN Store (at least in the US.) Though great games, it would be a challenge to bring them into the HD era.

Why rerelease underworld again?

Gutted it isn’t the first 3, I loved the second one and haven’t played the first.
Charmed_Fanatic
I thought it was 1,2 and 3, oh well, i still have these games, so i dont think i will be buying these

I think they may have made an error of judgement on this. I would buy HD remakes of the originals, not these.

Me too, I suffered Underground once, don’t want to put myself through that again, but the first 3 would be great.

I thought that ‘Legend’ & ‘Anniversary’ were generally regarded as two of the poorer titles in the Tomb Raider line? Bit of a strange decision IMO.
Reedus
that is very incorrect. the franchise was on a huge slide (with core as developer) when crystal dynamics took over and created a new engine for legend, which was quite highly rated. anniversary was a remake of the original tomb raider (with the new engine) and is possibly my favorite in the series. it was EXACTLY how a remake should be done. anyway, both were critically well-received. you’re most likely thinking of last revelations, chronicles, and angel of darkness.

I agree with the general consensus. Should be 1 through 3. what with the new laura c game going back to it’s roots surley that would make far more sense…

I really don’t understand the logic in releasing this, Underworld was released only just over 2 years ago and from what I have seen on the TR forums they won’t actually be doing anything to it. The only thing that could justify this release is if it did include the DLC, which I do not see happening.

Re-release the ones that play like the dogs logs, GENIUS!
DRCD1
Re-release the ones that play like Tanks, then. GENIUS. While, in my opinion, all Tomb Raiders were great, we must understand that the people who are more likely to buy a trilogy of Tomb Raider games are younger, and therefore less likely to play games that control like tanks, because they are used to the other games this gen, that are more about killing than jumping around.
P.S.: I have no idea what “dogs logs” means, but I belive you’re refering to the Crystal D. Tomb Raider games.
