According to IGN, a listing appeared yesterday on the website of US game retailer GameStop – and was later pulled – for a “Gears of War Ultimate”. No details were posted aside from a price point of $29.99 (about £20) and a release date of February 15th.
Microsoft have confirmed that “a forthcoming bundle SKU involving the Gears franchise” is in the works, although declined to give any further details, except that Ultimate “may not be the final SKU name”. Such a bundle would probably include the first two games in the series, along with all the available downloadable content, and serve as an entry point into the franchise for those who have missed it so far, ahead of Gears of War 3’s release later in the year. It’s a similar strategy to the one used by Sony with the God of War Collection and the upcoming Team Ico Collection, ahead of God of War 3 and The Last Guardian respectively.
Strangely, one thing that definitely won’t be included is a beta key for Gears of War 3, say Microsoft. Presumably part of the deal with Epic is that the beta will remain exclusive to the Bulletstorm special edition to help push that game.

Gears of War Kinnect game we’ve heard rumours about?
I mean if its really just a bundle of 1 and 2 with DLC, whats so secretive or special about that? Why would MS confirm its existence and then talk about the details of it if it was just a bundle?
Maybe because GoW Kinnect has yet to be announced…?

Bearing in mind that GoW Kinect (if that’s what it is) was meant to be announced at the VGA’s in mid-December and got delayed, I would be incredibly surprised if it turned up by February.

Gears of War is one of the strongest exclusive franchises on the Xbox. It’s not for me either but I recognise that it’s a cracking title for millions of people around the world.

Gears is a strange one for me. I love the story mode, playing it alone or co-op, but I can’t stand the competitive multiplayer and just can’t get into horde.
