GT5 Save Data Cracked Open

It seems the flood gates are most definitely open, as reports are coming in that a PS3 owner has managed to successfully copy over, crack open, and modify someone else’s almost complete GT5 save game to run on his own PSN profile.

This has apparently given access to “loads of trophies, loads of cars, and loads of money” – which he can use online – whilst also arguably negating the whole point of owning GT5.

Sadly, it’s safe to assume this is the start of many more game saves being bust wide open.

TheSixthAxis does not condone piracy and does not recommend the modification of your console.

  1. thinks its time to engage the “killswitch”!!!

  2. Sad really. The ability to swap/lend cars and gamesaving were enough to give people an ‘edge’ with the game. What’s the point in just breaking it wide open. You may as well just not bother playing it at all – no enjoyment of the game to be had that way. Some people…

    *sigh*

  3. As much as I am against hacking and everything. I can understand why people would want to be able to trade game saves. Many people simply do not have the time to work their way up and get the good cars. I know theres arcade mode, but theres only a limited selection of cars and tracks available until you unlock them yourselves. The only bit about this is trophies have come with it, that’s my only gripe about this.

  4. What really pissed me off is that this was supposed to be a bumper year for the PS3 with some great games comming our way and I was looking forward to, and getting excited about, spending another great year on my PS3. But now this news of the opening of the PS3 system to endless hacks which will result in a diluted online experience, pointless trophy collecting and people geing able to complete games without putting the hard work has made it a depressing start to the year as a PS3 owner!

    • How has it changed anything? Theres still tons of great games on the horizon, so what if someone wants to hack their saves or even the console itself, it’s their loss if they don’t get the most out of GT5 or if they get banned from PSN, it’s not going affect you so don’t worry about it..
      .
Just look forward to the good stuff, it’s what I do :)

      • I know I should, I’m in a pretty mad mood today and this just put an extra downer on the day, can’t vent it out at the source so the hackers became my target for the day!

Thanks for the different outlook to it Severn2j!

  5. Trophies are not stored on the hard disk or anywhere else on the playstation. They’re linked online to your PSN so I don’t really buy this guys claims…

    • What about everyone without the internet, they still have trophies…

      • Yes but they’re not updated to the PSN are they until they are connected to the internet, so to have the trophies without the internet is pointless.

  6. Exactly. Well said.

  7. Meh, so someone wants to artificially enlarge his e-penis. It’s not the end of the world and certainly doesn’t affect the wider online community, most people don’t have jailbroken PS3s and those that do are unlikely to risk playing online anyway, even if they can.

    • What is annoying about this is that companies will respond by copy-protecting game saves, which is a royal pain in the ass as you can’t protect your hard work from loss if your PS3 breaks.

      • Or if you’re me, who has a VERY temperamental PS3. It corrupts the hard drive every other day. Words can not describe how much I hate my current PS3 (Much Effing and jeffing, indeed).

(I know for a fact it’s not the PS3 hard drive – changed it THREE TIMES!)

  8. I don’t mind either way about trophies, I find them interesting to compare with my friends as to who has what (in terms of the skill based ones) but it doesn’t matter to me if some random online has 4,000 trophies or whatever.

I guess if people are using hacks or whatever to cheat online places like SixthAxis may benefit in a way, as communities like this may come together and just play people they know on the forums if cheating is rife elsewhere?

If I can ask a broader hack-based question to people more knowledgeable on the subject: as someone who has no interest in the things a hacked PS3 could do (therefore I wouldn’t be getting any of this stuff etc), who plays online regularly (but usually with friends) and offline as well – how much is all the fallout of this issue going to affect me?

  9. Absolute rubbish.
I hate it when someone has copy some platinum game saves even they never started playing or doesn’t want to then don’t even get a PS3 or Xbox 360 (achievements)
Well I for one would never do that, but I do want to back up my games though in case it gets faulty or my PS3 breaks down.

  10. so trophies on GT5 must be retroactive for this to be true. bit silly int it considering no other game has done it
