Killzone 3 To Include Over An Hour Of Cutscenes?

If you’re the kind of gamer that enjoys a nice thick story to go along with all your killing, then this rumour about Killzone 3 will likely please you. The United Kingdom’s Board of Film Classification has given Killzone 3 an official rating – 18 – and in their rating review they mentioned something interesting.  There’s a line that states the length of all cut scenes that were provided for the rating.

“01:10:00:00 SUPPLEMENTARY CUTSCENES PROVIDED FOR RATING (APPROX)”

As an American, I’m not even going to pretend that I understand how the BBFC goes about their business, but it sure looks to me like there’s 70 minutes worth of cutscenes in Killzone 3.  On one hand, it’s a little bit of a surprise when I think about what the cinematics were like in Killzone 2.  On the other hand, the story trailer Guerrilla released last week does show that there seems to be a larger emphasis on the plot.

I don’t know about you guys and gals, but I’m all for a fleshed out story to go with my explosions and death, so let’s hope this stupid yank hasn’t misinterpreted what the BBFC means.

  1. You’re american? On topic, this does help me think positive about the story for Killzone 3. The story in Killzone 2 was paper thin at times.

    • Indeed I am. The first and only TSA has had if I’m not mistaken.

      • Did you offer to spell words “correctly”? (eg. colour, etc). :-p Loving the articles so far, Matt. Keep up the good work.

      • Yay, I’m American too. I wonder how many are actually on TSA.

    • I remember enjoying Killzone’s original story, but didn’t get into the second games one that much. Hopefully this one gets me hooked! Amd then builds for Killzone 4!

  2. Really looking forward to this game :-)

  3. I hope it’s skippable. I usually sit through most cutscenes, but if I’m in the mood to get going, nothing pisses me off more than unskippable scenes. I hated the Mass Effect 2 demo, probably mostly because of this.

    • If it’s on the second playthrough, then OK. I get that. But why the hell would anyone want to skip a story cutscene on a first playthrough. I’m a story person, so maybe it’s just me…

      • Basically this^ why would you even bother playing a narrative based game if your not even going to watch the story?

Surely you should just stick to multiplayer…

      • yeah i don’t see the point in skipping them on the first play through. doesn’ that ruin the point of playing the single player? its just the same as randomly turning a few pages in a book

      • Yeah, my brother always skips cutscenes on a first playthrough, which really bugs me because I like watching them.

  4. I expect a big one at the beginning, a big one at the end, and somd smaller ones inbetween… Just a guess!

  5. I’m glad they focus more on story this time. Hopefully they will all be in-engine so there won’t be major graphical differences between them and gameplay.

  6. sweet.surely theres a demo due out.???

  7. I love cutscenes MGS were the best so very looking forward for this one.

  8. Awesome, the opening cutscene from KZ2 was stunning, more can only be a good thing!

  9. Brilliant, a good game become a great game with a fully developed story.

70 minutes of cut-scenes? Surely that’s enough time in which Rico can get killed?

My prediction: A splinter within the Helghan ranks, with one side eventually siding with the ISA

  10. helghast are the good guys. isa suck ;P
