Today’s big hitter was meant to be the multiplayer online role player Free Realms – you can read more about it here – but it hasn’t appeared. Hopefully it’ll turn up later.
Instead, you’ve got the PS3 release of Swarm (review here) and the wonderful Chime Super Deluxe, which you can read all about right here, plus the PSP release of The 3rd Birthday.
(Offer prices available until the 13th April)

“Shift 2 Unleashed™ Unlock All Cars (£7.99/€9.99)”
And thus is what contributes to the demoralisation of games.

That’s what I mentioned in my article – http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/03/29/the-highs-and-lows-of-shift-2-unleashed/ – you can buy your way up the career mode too.

Doesn’t ‘buying’ your way up the game go against what the game is all about, it defeats the purpose really, where’s the challenge?

Don’t know, couldn’t test it and had no desire to do so.

I don’t see the point in it, games tend to get boring when you’ve finished them, and when you always win by a huge gap, just ruins the whole point in the game :/.

Some people don’t have the time to unlock it all yet want the content. Simple as that.
This doesn’t appeal to me though I understand the desire for this option.
The way I see it: you don’t have to do this. It’s your choice. If people want to pay to unlock content rather than spending time to actually unlock it, that’s their choice. I can’t see myself doing it, but I’m not going to judge someone who may simply want to experience an aspect of a game they never would due to time constraints.

I wonder if it unlocks the associated trophies too.

i agree with you sir!

Fair enough some people don’t have time to unlock all the cars but thats not the point. They’re actually charging you £8 for the privilege of doing this. A generation ago this would have just been a simple cheat code. The content is already there on the disc, this requires little (1 line) to no extra coding so what exactly are you paying for here?

It’s a complete rip-off, would never waste my money.
Anyway the longer it takes to finish a game the better value for money it is.

Surely I should unlock all the cars when I pay £35 for the game?

It could be worthwhile for people that don’t have time to unlock these cars etc. but JEEZ! the game has not yet released, so even those of us that want to work through the career to unlock these cars etc. havent had the time to take the cellophane wrapper off the box yet!!! At least wait until the game has been released for a week or two…or am I being cynical?

The 3 trials for me, although I only caught up with the past 3 weeks of downloads last night, so I’ll get round to those at some point, if I remember.

That meant to say
< insert comment about Auditorium HD here > *sigh*
but I forgot the spaces next to the angle

interesting, why does it ignore your text if you put it straight after the angles?

Why do they release “unlock” packages as DLC, £8 to unlock all cars on Shift 2, just play the sodding game!, sorry it just annoys me…defeats the point of playing the game in my opinion

I hate that EA do it for release day.
IMO they should either wait a month or two, or make it so ‘unlock cars’ can’t go online, because every single online game not against friends will be ruined now

Because there are people who are lazy and not good at a game and want the best things with no effort.
Means they are crap at games and is an easy way for the company to make money

I dont agree with it either and the very thought of paying for all the unlocks in Bad Company sickens me as the fun is in collecting them ! I was gutted that my special edition came with the first few things unlocked , i saw this as a minus not a plus of getting a LE version.

If people didn’t buy them, then they wouldn’t put them there. Even if 1% of the people that buy unlock, then from 1 million sales that’s £80,000 of profit for doing absolutely nothing on their part.
Do this for every game release and suddenly you’re looking at a few million dollars extra to go on top of everything else.

It’s only a short term measure though, because it makes online unplayable and therefore people more likely to trade-in (1% or more) meaning lower future premium DLC sales & weakens the brands loyalty as a result.

I see what your saying, but if the point of the game is to progress whats the point of unlocking progression before you`ve even pressed start at the title screen? Surley EA want people to play the game aswell as making money

Hey, if people want to buy it, what does it matter? It doesn’t affect your offline game enjoyment, and with sensible car class limits online (I don’t know if they’re there or not), having all the cars unlocked wouldn’t give any crazy advantages.
30/03/2011 at 15:10

Because it ruins online for everyone & for the business reasons mentioned.

I agree if people want to buy it then thats fine, and if it makes money for the game developer/industry then thats fine, my point is that its a game, and games are meant to be played and beaten, whats the point of having it done for you already, you might as well not bother and save yourself the £40 and the £8 and not bother at all, this is my own opinion, im not forcing it on anyone and saying its right its just my own opinion

The same goes for Tiger Woods. The game isn’t even out in the UK yet and they have course packs!! EA really does my head in at times.

Release day Premium DLC is wrong IMO
I don’t have a problem paying for additional content, but the sheer volume of EAs launch day stuff across all its titles, all of the time is bordering on immoral. If they were Activision there would be a million haters comments to follow

I bet anyone that pre ordered the game from Shopto and was given a redeem code for a special DLC putter thought they were onto a winner until they saw that list of available DLC on the store for the game…SIGH
