Sony Press Conference Tomorrow

The PSN issue continues to trundle along, picking up rumours and creating doubts and fears along the way. Sony look set to finally address those fears and hopefully give their customers some more concrete indication of the network’s schedule of return with a press conference tomorrow.

Kazuo Hirai is to talk to the world’s press at the conference in Japan tomorrow at 2PM, local time (that’s 5AM 6AM in the UK or midnight 1AM, EST). It is obviously unknown what Kaz will say but we’d expect some further (or at least more detailed) information about exactly what was compromised, how it was stored and a more detailed road map for switching on what we hope will be a new and improved service.

The PSN hack and subsequent downtime has made international news, doubtless damaging Sony’s reputation as well as its stock price. Hopefully this press conference is the first step towards regaining consumer trust and keeping a more regular and informative communication with their consumers.

  1. A date for when it’s going to be switched on would be nice…
    That’s all I’m interested in. I imagine he will talk in great detail on the what’s and why’s but thats not going to change the fact that it happened. Confirm a date! Please!
    I can handle waiting for something but having the date makes it so much easier.

      • somewhere on the forum buddy or the blog is where they posted it but Speed Studios with PSN exclusive are still releasing RTS Under Siege as planned on Tuesday

        Cause I read it

      • we had this conversation yesterday squashme. Fact is noone knows 100% what will happen or when, not even Sony themselves.

        This has run in circles for far too long now. Could i suggest the whole thing is dropped by all parties now and we look forward to next weekend when we /should/ all be sat around our TVs playing our games.

  4. The only thing I want from Kaz Hirai is aural pleasure. That’ll do me, although I wouldn’t say no if he want’s to pop round and cook my dinner, something fishy preferably.

    In all seriousness, I’m sure it’ll all be good news, the Playstation contingent of the gaming community will have their minds set at ease and Sony will look after us as far as a form of compensation is concerned.
    Personally, I’m not really interested in compensation of any sort, this whole event hasn’t troubled me, it hasn’t thrown my life into an uncontrollable spiral of disastrous events, but mostly because I don’t feel I deserve anything. It’s an unfortunate happening and I just have to get on with it.
    I’d like it to be just how it was before and we can all just forget about this incident.
    The paramount thing on Sony’s mind should be focusing on preventative measures.

  8. off topic but i just checked my trophies an for most of my games it says “there are no trophies” does anyone know why this is?

    • how’d you do that you cant sign into PSN to check

      considering you have a backup copy on your PS3 I wouldnt worry about it anyway just sync them as normal when PSN comes back on

      • you can still check them just not sync them.. few games it shows them but for uncharted 2,naruto storm 2,ratchet an clank crack in time. it say there are no trophies?

      • Mine are working fine, been rattle through Uncharted 2 and the notification comes up and they appear in the list. Have you achieved any new Trophies?

        just sync them again when PSN comes back online theyl still be there Sony have said that themselves dont worry about it too much matie

        you have a copy on the servers and a backup on you PS3

        That trophy was a pain in the ass, but seriously try it co-op. I tried like 50 times on my own and then did it on my second go with the missus.

      • @ gybrocker – Are you on your original PS3? If not then you’ll have had to do a trophy sync from the server when you got the new one, and when offline it can sometimes seem to lose trophies that you’ve earned. They come back when you sync with the server again though.

      • well i have a peoblem with co-op as my friends thinks its kids game an my wife… well she just hates games :( im on my own for that trophie

    • Same here started to replay Infamous on Hard with evil side as I completed the good side, but it’s 0% instead of 78%????

        i wanted to pick up some tropgie for ratchet but it wont sow any list or nothing?

      • I think it’ll be fine. A while back during some YLOD shenanigans, I completely lost everything to do with RE5. Once I’d reinstalled the game and started afresh, the trophies started pinging once I was fulfilling the certain criteria and when I looked back in the list, they’d all returned.
        Had me a little worried but I think the system was just shaking itself out.

      • try aiming for particular trophy see if pops up considering R&C:ACIT trophies are all offline I cant any reason why PSN’s downtime would affect those trophies

  10. One things that’s bugging me – when people have talked about Sony implementing increased levels of security, on the PSN, before its relaunch. Surely it’s all ‘too little too late’? As it doesn’t matter how secure they make it from now on, they already have all of our details.
    I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention/mull that over yet?

    • Well, presumably people will still sign-up to the PSN once it’s back online. Be nice if they were better protected than we were.

    • This is the point, the majority of people commenting in these PSN articles on TSA seem happy that Sony shut the stable door after the horse bolted, for the life of me I can’t understand why.

      and now Sony are going to put their side of the story forward, no doubt after being heavily legally briefed for the past week, their potential massive security flaws will be even further from most TSA reader’s minds

      Just think about this, by me commenting under cc_star here or anywhere else, some people know where I live, my DoB, my security question, my password, my inside leg measurement & my shoe size

      This is a fucking disgraceful fact!

      I hope for Sony’s sake its not just propaganda & lies tomorrow

      I want to know why/if?

      *It was an inside job like a reported 80% of big data breaches, if so why wasn’t their data centre secure before now, as they’ve already said they take security seriously, is that another lie?
      * Why were they storing my passwords & security questions in unhashed files
      * Roughly how (not precisely obviously) their system keeled over when someone probed it
      * Why their firewalls failed
      * How someone was able to download (probably) hundreds of GBs without a flag being thrown up

      I’ve seen nothing in any of these points to see that Sony have took our security seriously, not that anyone else cares as long as the next blockbuster game comes out.

      If they tell me they took the safety of my details seriously a kitten will get squished.

      • They’re obviously going to try and end with some positive spin (hell, I’d be trying to do that if it was me) but I reckon they’ll be apologising.

        The most shameless deflection was Steve Jobs (last year) over the signal problem with the iPhone 4. He should be ashamed of what he said and I have a bloody iPhone 4 so no hate on my part. Big businesses just don’t want to apologise.

      • Yes, Jobs bringing in slight drop of signal on BBerry & Nokia was disgraceful. Customers details (the most important thing Sony ‘own’) deserves a conciliatory tone, anything else could or probably /would/ be extremely disingenuous
