EA Closing 17 Online Servers

EA is gearing up to hack away some of its dead weight with the closure of 17 multiplayer servers with games such Skate, Army of Two, and Need for Speed Most Wanted set for the chop. The global publisher explained that under one percent of online peak time throughout EA’s entire gallery is spent playing the games listed below. The company will begin closing the servers as soon as next month, maintenance costs being cited as another reason for the mass closures; funds will hopefully be redirected into upcoming projects.

  1. Fistbump?

    FISTBUMP!?

    • First comment to actually make me laugh out loud.

  2. Ah well, at least most of these games and demos were pretty old anyway.

  3. Damn, I was hoping to play Army of two at some point in my life, always been behind another game though…

    • Get the 40th night (AoT 2), it’s better, but still slightly pish.

  4. No massive surprises with the titles really. The only kick-off I can imagine will be from NFS Most Wanted

  5. Meh, NFS: Most Wanted is the only game I could vaguely care about. Fair enough :3

  6. Nothing there that should bother anyone too much, though there’s always going to be some moaning going on about these things. I think every single game on that list has had at least one newer version come out since, so it shouldn’t be a massive problem for anyone.

Sad day for Tiger 10 though, that’s one of my favourite platinum trophies, though Tiger 12 has improved on it in at least a million ways. Anyone still playing 10 really should go out and buy the Masters (12), it really is that much better.

    • Tiger 11 will still have online though right? Loved Tiger 12 when I had it, will be getting it again soon as I never played the online component of it – online pass n all that jazz.

      • I’d imagine this time next year Tiger 11’s servers will be shut down. So your online passes only get you 2 years of online play in Tiger by the looks of it!

    • I know of some people that have 10,11 and 12, and they regularly boot up 10 as well as playing 12 still….most of them agree that 11 was a bit of a bogey! (see what I did there) and so don’t bother playing that one any more.
There’s going to be some pissed off golfers!!

      • The only reason that i picked up 11 was because it had Celtic Manor on it which is my local course. Wasn’t as good as some of the others though.

  7. good that they are closing some servers of some old games, so they can use them to newer games that will be out in the future=)
and now i remember the awesome moments i had with NFS: MW=) ahhh those good old PS2 times *falls back in the armchair with a real AwesomeSatisfiedFace on his face*

  8. why not patch a p2p service in so private online matches can still take place.

  9. This will be bigger news when they take away the servers for games that will require a pass.

just one of the reasons i dont agree with online passes

  10. So to force everybody into buying the new ’11 sports games they’re shutting down the ’10 online modes. Cheap, just effen cheap EA! This is obviously an attempt to sell more new games- I guess EA Sports online passes are now good for just one season.
