Last month we reported that Capcom had removed the ability to delete saved games on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, a move that rather annoyed Alex.
Wired have posted their review of Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions from Namco Bandai and have noted that, like Monkey Ball 3DS and Resident Evil, you cannot delete your save data.
There is no high score board and when you finish the game it overwrites your score with the latest total. The game also features an achievements system so anyone who trades in the game will do so with the virtual trinkets unlocked.

Oh oh…

i suppose they’ll come out with some lame lie that’s “that’s how the game was designed, they didn’t take anything away from it to stop preowned sales”.
because we all know the new game option should disappear forever after you start playing.

Save data issues aside…isn’t it a bit odd for games such as these to not even have a high score table of all things?

I wonder if we can expect this nonsense for the Vita too, if so it’ll probably put me off buying one.

It’s to do with the publishers, not the consoles. Might well see it with certain games on the Vita, but just don’t buy those games! I can’t see this catching on really. Might see a few more douche bag publishers try it but it won’t become widespread.
Deathbrin
Uhh so you think we can see that on the PS3?!
a inferior race
It would be borderline impossible on the PS3 as it doesn’t write anything to disc. In the event that crap like that did start, I would have no qualms installing CFW.

Got to say that while I agree in principle with the online passes argument, providing that the 2nd hand purchaser is able to buy a pass at a reasonable price. I think £5 or less is a sufficient profit to make considering the developers outlay doesn’t increase in any way. This single save idea is complete and utter bullshit, families etc share games and to have achievements already unlocked is not acceptable. I know they think they are battling the problems associated with 2nd hand games by stifling the market in this way but trust me it only hurts the original purchaser. You trade your game in at a lower price losing more money, the 2nd hand purchaser takes all this into account and buys it when the price point is suitable. Shop still makes a profit, only person losing out is the valuable customer who bought your products new and supports the whole industry. Doesn’t seem fair does it.

I couldn’t care less about preowned as I buy all my games new, BUT sometimes its just nice to start a completely new game, irrespective of what you’ve unlocked. I did it recently with AC Brotherhood. If I couldn’t do a new game on it I probably wouldn’t have gone back to it. Seems ridiculous not to include this simple function.

As long as this idiotic idea doesn’t find its way onto PS Vita releases then I can’t say it affects me. I certainly wouldn’t buy any game that does do this, even if it wouldn’t make a difference to me, it’s just principle. Not to mention resale value.

This seems like it might be the only time that hacking would ever be of some use, if possible. Forgetting about the second-hand buyer, how ridiculous that the original purchaser can’t even start their own game from scratch again. I hope these games sell badly and valuable lesson is learnt.

Three things that are preventing me from buying a 3DS:
1) Lack of original games.
2) Money.
3) This.
hazelam
i’d agree but add
4) it’s region locked.
a monumentally stupid thing on a handheld.

I have a horrid feeling that this is going to catch on and will be getting towards being standard by the time the Vita is released. If this happens with the Vita I will not be buying one.
