Sonic fans, rejoice! It has been revealed that Sonic CD is going to be released on Xbox Live Arcade. Details haven’t been announced yet, but it seems like the game will be playable later this week at PAX at the Microsoft booth.
Originally released in 1993 for the Sega CD/Mega-CD, Sonic CD is definitely one of the more unique classics in the series. It has time travel, crazy level design, and quite possibly the best run animation ever. This was also the game that introduced the world to Metal Sonic, who is awesome, and Amy, who is less than awesome.
It’s unknown if Sonic CD will be speeding its way towards the PlayStation Network anytime soon. It does seem likely, but nothing is confirmed at this point. It’s worth noting that Sega still hasn’t even released Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles on PSN yet for some reason.

I remember this strange game, I really loved the unique Future/Past switching and the soundtrack. It shall be interesting to try it out again on XBLA.

From what i recall, Sonic CD was actually pretty good – Sure it wasn’t much of a step up from previous iterations, but we all know what happened when they tried to mess with the formula, don’t we?
Hopefully this one will come to PSN so i can re-live some old memories (Sonic CD was one of my most played Mega CD games).

PSN just doesn’t get the love like XBLA does. Part of the reason why I got an Xbox this month was due to more games like this being on Xbox than PS3.
