Diablo III to Ship in Early 2012

“Despite a sterling record of always hitting its release targets”, it has been announced that Blizzard will be pushing the launch of Diablo III into early 2012.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, had the following to say:

“With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn’t put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready. The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we’re taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.”

Blizzard will use the additional time to extend the Diablo III closed beta test, which began September 20, potentially adding more testers than initially projected. Players who have an active Battle.net account with any Blizzard game attached to it should visit Battle.net account management to opt in for a chance to participate in the beta test. Additional testing phases, as well as further details regarding the launch plans for the game, will be announced on the company’s Diablo III community website.

  1. Guess I have no reason for a long xmas vacation now… oh wait, UC3, Skyrim, Batman, BF3, Saints Row 3, AC:Rev, Rage, Zelda and 3D Mario. I still need that vacation.

  2. Worth the wait. Trust me.
    :)

  3. Has anyone on TSA received an invite ?
I’m off to have another look at my battlenet account :D

  4. I wonder if there really is a console-version, and if so, when will it release? Good Move-integration could make it work very well.
I’m glad it’s not out until 2012, ’cause if it came out this year I wouldn’t have the time to play it. Next year is filling up quite nicely in terms of games.

  5. I have had this game on pre-order for 2 years now can not wait for it to come out
