Need For Speed: The Run Sports Illustrated Girls Videos

Electronic Arts has released two trailers which show Sports Illustrated hotties Irina Shayk and Chrissy Teigen writhing about in swimwear. The two lovely ladies have been digitised and feature as characters in the game.

Now at this point I really should stop typing, in fact I’ve typed more text and deleted it four times but, what the hell, it needs saying.

Really EA? In 2011? When females make up half the gaming population you think it’s fine to drop a pair of swimwear models into a racing game just to sell a few more copies? I thought this kind of marketing had died out. There are hundreds of talented actresses you could of used but you thought no, let’s crowbar some boobs into the game.

Frankly, I’m quite disgusted at this. It’s a shame that games companies still think they need to resort to this kind of thoughtless, cheap marketing in order to get attention. It’s even more of a shame that it tends to be quite successful.

This is sexist crap (any plans to release videos of the male characters writhing about in speedos? No, didn’t think so) and has no place in Need For Speed, other than for the tawdry titillation of sexually immature gamers.

  1. Vidoe or GTFO. :p

I am going to start doubting this game as it is using sex in an attempt to sell more copies. :) I wonder if Need for speed will take the Dead or Alive route? ;)

  2. Yep, they’d definitely get it.

    • I do think this makes “gamers” look very stupid. I would never buy a game because it had half-naked ladies in it. It’s no wonder some people consider this hobbie immature, unfortunately.

EA are obviously making too much money paying for these models to do this kind of shit.

      • Im definitely buying this now because of those two hot women!

Nah only joking, not interested at all. :P

      • Rule #1 of marketing: Know your market.

This makes perfect sense. I’m not saying I agree with it, just that I know, from a campaign perspective, this is a smart move.

  3. Are the girls a pre order bonus?

  4. I completely agree, it’s the same in all types of marketing.

  5. Huh, huh – Boobs.

    :)

  6. Whilst I can see this strategy making the game perhaps sell better than had they not taken this approach, to me it makes me suspicious about the quality of the game underneath. If young men want boobies then there are other places to look rather than a game.

    • After playing it at Eurogamer, i kinda agree – There wasn’t anything wrong with it per se, but it was just same old NFS from what i could see. Looked like NFS, played like NFS.

Perhaps boobies will help that. Who knows?

  7. Hot Women / Hot Cars usually go hand in hand. I don’t find it unusual.

Sex sells…as with a lot of things, put up or shut up.

Not that i’m directing that at you Tuffcub.

  8. I’m just waiting for them to add a jumprope minigame… *cough*

I agree with you TC. To me it’s a distraction in a game if a character is dressed like a skank.

    I still love you, Sport’s Illustrated. Don’t worry! :D

    • I believe they will include a minigame where you to spray them with a hose and the more wet they get, the clothing they take off. Or some dead or aliveish mini games.

  9. I think it’s great. Three things I love, fast cars, video games and hot women – all combined!

TuffCub, everything offends someone somewhere at sometime, just like you wouldn’t like people getting upset at the concept of a gay video game icon, I don’t like you getting upset at the concept of a couple of hetro (and hot) video game icons. Actually they may be gay, I don’t know – either way I’m aroused.

Tuffcub says “There are hundreds of talented actresses you could of used but you thought no, lets get crowbar some boobs into the game.”

So actresses are ok, but models are nothing but boobs? What about actresses with boobs? What about models that can act? How about just letting it go and accepting it for what it is – entertainment.

    • Surely the underlying comment from Tuffcub is not just that they have titillated some hormonal teens’ loins rather cheaply but, that this is a cheap trick, and is one that’s often used to cover over the missing core quality of a product.

  10. Surely stuff like this doesn’t make people buy games.

    • I fully agree.

    • Actually, research shows that it does. They wouldn’t do this if there wasn’t a lot of data to back up the practice.
