One of these weeks we’ll forget that the PlayStation Store update is on a Wednesday and it’ll be late, and we won’t have written a witty intro. Instead, we’ll just dump out the list and then – walk away.
Not this week, though. No. No way.
So, er, enjoy Borderlands for cheap, and Mercury, and a ridiculously expensive download for FIFA 12. Just don’t come crying to us when you’re saddened by the lack of our usual flare and poise on these articles.
Seriously.

£50+ downloadable games is the joke that just keeps on giving, really.
However, actually quite impressed with the Borderlands GOTY bundle price.

Yeah, at least those guys understand how the digital market should work.

I don’t think you understand how it works. In SOME countries games quickly drop in price at retail. In some OTHER countries they don’t.
For the latter set of countries these “expensive” digital copies make sense.
I know I’ll never buy one of these games, but some people will – especially those people who live in countries were game prices are relatively high at retail.

also for something like FIFA, many will prefer the convenience of having the game on the XMB ready to go, possibly with faster loading times too.

@ kovacs
well, but seeing as the pricing is anyway done separately for each region, this still doesnt make sense… the GBP price is just for the UK, where the pricing does indeed drop fast…

I very much understand how it works Kovacs. That’s why I said that they understand how it should work.

@gernboes
And piss off retailers? The fact is: games come with an RRP. The first “R” is for Recommended. Not enforced. We’re still in the early days of digital distribution and, obviously, things need to improve. However, the only option SCEE have is to put the content up at the RRP. The RRP for FIFA 12 is £54.99.
@klart There’s a big different between a new SKU and a game that is over a year old. Apples and oranges. Play have Borderlands GOTY edition for £14.99. The digital price is really good but you have to remember that we’re talking about an old game that they are only now able to put on special offer.
There’s no way they’re going to put FIFA 12 on sale now.
Bottom line: new games go up at their RRP. Old games are a completely different story and I agree that Sony should be working with publishers to get these older titles up on the Store for competitive prices.

These prices also take into account people that game share. Divide £54 by 5 and it’s a cheap game.

I just want the DLC dammit!!!

it still works out cheaper for the DLC.

I want it too but never bothered with the GOTY just bought the base game again months ago, I’d buy just one then get the other once the other is finished… because I hadn’t even tried much of that Armory one.

I know people that buy the games at that price… But only when is divised by 5 people xD

Maybe this is the reason they’re so expensive.
Well that and the fact that they don’t want to upset the retailers by releasing the digital copies cheaper than the retailer can sell it.
Still €70 is taking the piss when the RRP is about €50 – €55.

Sorry jcor but you’re wrong.
The RRP for FIFA 12 is £54.99
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/fifa-12-rrp-upped-to-54-99/03491
That converts into €63.18 but I’m sure the euro RRP is actually €69.99. The fact that it’s posted at this price by Sony proves this. They quote the RRP. I’m pretty sure they HAVE to.

Fair enough, didn’t realise the RRP was that high.

As a EU Plus member I’m pretty disappointed.
The US plus members just got ALL of the Uncharted 2 DLC for free (and even more freebies like themes and avatars), while we got nothing whatsoever.
We are supposed to get mid-month treats (check the official Plus website), but get nothing.

Yep. I was very disappointed with that too. All of the U2 DLC packs is a sweet deal.

I’m saddened by this too, I’ve ordered the Uncharted Bundle because I actually haven’t played the games (it’s an outrage!)and wanted to get them done before the third game came out. And free DLC would really help me get into the multiplayer as Uncharted’s multiplayer-portion will be my go-to for online gaming this winter. I demand satisfaction!
And TSA, don’t worry about getting the list out bare-boned as I’ve been thinking it’s Tuesday until i saw this post, and thank you for setting my internal calender right.

Child of Eden and Free Realms just sneak in to the store. Why the heck haven’t they been publicized?

Whoops, was gonna post something in response. I got angry over a year ago and gave up. EU members are always getting less than US members :l.

Comments in the blog “suggest” we’re getting this DLC (or something equivalent) as part of the October 5th Plus update.

Yeah, hardly a fanfare welcome really was it?
The less people know about it (i.e. like the fact that it is now actually available!), the more likely it is to fail unfortunately.
& then they’ll moan about how no-one decided to bother with it!

EA have a lot of partners in retail who they sell to & suggest £54.99 as the SRP, how would all EA’s partners feel if EA undercut them & sold it for 30, yes it’s a joke but completely understandable with new releases, its the older games at ridiculous prices that’s massively wrong.

I much prefer to be able to see all the content on page 1 like this, I’m far to lazy to want to click to go to page 2 :P
How big is the BF3 beta, that’ll probably be the only thing I download this week.

I agree, a simple one page list will suffice. And it saves The TSA News Team some hassle.

That Rochard game is a bit of a surprise,i’d seen it and thought it looked worth keeping an eye on and then it just turns up.
Mercury is a must buy for me,i really enjoy that sort of game.

Damn Borderlands reduction! Why couldn’t it have happened a few months back. Not when I have just bought 4 other games in the past week. I have a wedding to pay for!!!!
I know I shouldn’t but I will probably still buy it!

Great game IMO – Couldn’t stop playing it until it was platinumed. Depends on how much you like the FPS/RPG crossover playstyle though.
I liked it a lot.

You’re in for a treat. Borderlands it now one of my favourite games of the current generation. I got the Platinum Trophy on the PS3 with multiple playthroughs including all the DLC and I recently got it for the PC just to play through it again with mouse and keyboard support.
