OK, lets snap it back to games, what was your first experience with games on Commodore 64.
Oh, you know what? I knew you were going to ask me this, and there was a game, but I’m just trying to think of the name… It was, like most of those games, top down. 2D, a bit of a shooter. It’s all very sketchy.
Aside from that, my friend had a computer, where we played Manic Miner loads.
I’m trying to think what game you’re talking about.
It was on C64, and I just cannot think of the name at all. I remember another game though, The Last Ninja 2 I think it was. It was one of the last games I played on the C64, really, and I properly sat down and finished it. I thoroughly enjoyed that. It was like a very early 3rd person, from what I can remember.
I think The Last Ninja was isometric, and you were negotiating gardens, and killing when you needed to, and it had some fantastic music on the C64.
That was one of the things the C64 did better. You know like the whole 360 vs. PS3 thing now, it used to be C64 vs. Spectrum, and while the Spectrum had better graphics, the C64 had a better sound card. They both had advantages.
I remember that the Spectrum had the fabled rubber keys falling out, and they used to get stuck in so you had to pop them back out.
I tell you what I hate retro gaming.
Some retro games work well, and others are just best left… You know?
They just don’t transfer as well as they should.
Right, what about favourite games, now?
I’ll say one of my favourite games has got to be the original Tomb Raider, just because I sat down and just did not stop until I’d finished that game.
It was a lovely experience, and it obviously earned Core Design and Eidos a ton of money and started a long lasting franchise. We can see where the modern games are going, but when that first one came out it was just a hell adventure.
Another one was the original WipEout, purely because it was breaking grounds, being on CD and the soundtrack was absolutely incredible.
Yeah the soundtrack was released separately as well, and showed how Sony were trying to get in touch with people who weren’t your average gamers as well. What about favourite genres?
I wish I could sit down and play a fixed genre, for instance driving games. I enjoy playing driving games, but it’s now sat in my cupboard gathering dust until I decide I want to pick it up again. I’ve obviously been on the Battlefield 3 demo, and that’s taken up a lot of my time. I’m enjoying that as well.

Yes, the guys have been telling me the last few days they’ve been enjoying that. Ignoring all of the bugs, there’s a cracking game under the bonnet.
Well it’s a beta, so it’s going to be buggy. I think they’re probably deliberately releasing it a bit bad so when it comes out it’s all singing and dancing and will appear a lot better.
I’ve also got into Killzone 3 as well, which is the only one I got into because I didn’t really get into the other two Killzones, but this last one is absolutely fantastic. Including the online, where I can hold my own, which is unusual for me in a FPS.
Back to the original question, no I don’t have a particular genre. I enjoy playing everything. I’m particularly into PSN and downloading some of the smaller titles right now.
I love the PSN games. Absolutely adore them.
I’m going to be buying the one where you pick up and move the sand and water.
Oh, From Dust?
Yes, I think I’m going to get From Dust, and I’m looking forward to Journey. I’ve noticed as well that you’ve been playing the HD remakes of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. They’re now on my buy or borrow list.

If you download the file and play it back at half speed, or so, Mike and Kitch sound like a pair of old drunks who’re sat on a sofa at 3AM just having a very slovenly chat about stuff…
Then you speed it up again, and realise they’re going like the clappers.

I still melt at the sound of your voice, bunimo. Why don’t you do TV voice work!?
bunimomike
Funnily enough one of my clients (I’m a graphic designer by trade) wants me to do the voice-overs for some ads on one of the back-water channels on Sky (and Freesat).
I’m still smiling and feeling a touch “wow” at your kind words but it never ceases to make me smile when someone says something so kind. Cheers, fella. :)
Jim H [Teabags]
I remember that podcast you were on and yeh I totally agree, very calm and sophisticated indeed.
bunimomike
Wow. Thanks, Jim! *is a little speechless*
OllyBobs
Nice to meet you GTOWN! and bunimo.. Get back on the podcast!
Kitch
Thanks. I love it here.
Origami Killer
very funny to listen :L Nice to meet you GTOWN. I always think Bunimomike sounds like Jarvis (used to play rugby for Wales, the guy with the afro) or a rugby player at least.
Kitch
Well it’s nice to be part of something so special.
MadJunkBoy

bacon_nuts
Stiff!? Too much information… :P
bunimomike
I did, fella. Came 2nd (runner-up) too so won £100 Amazon gift voucher. Maybe I should offer a premium-rate bedtime storey service over Skype. For when you can’t sleep or don’t want to. ;-)
Interviewing Kitch was a pleasure and I know we could’ve chatted into the small hours of the morning but tef’s poor fingers would’ve been worn to the bone transcribing everything.
Kitch
I pleasured Mike during the interview. That’s on Redtube though.
Hannypoppie
Bedtime voice is mine please! Kaythanksbyeee
moshi
I feel your pain of working in said supermarket for I too suffer the same daily slog.
Kitch
Tesco are the ultimate. But it pays for my gaming habits.
moshi
Do you have the pleasure of a Customer Cafe for that is where I dwell and run the joint. The shame.
Kitch
Our Cafe has been rented out to Avenance. We have nothing to do with it.
Kitch
And I managed to get a swear word on the front page. Read the 1st letter of each of my replies. I’m so childish. ;)
bunimomike
Awesome! I do this way too often! Also, when I transfer money to my friends accounts I write down the reference as some sort of sex toy just so their bank statements are childishly rude.
Ben
Another great meet the reader, what a nice community we have. Hello Kitch! It was wonderful to hear from you, hope your having a good weekend.
Kitch
My weekend is fab so far. Just got back from a walk with the kids. Only 5 mile but good all the same.
XisTG
always read your name as GT OWN :p
can’t see your face on the photo in this post, but I’m pretty sure I already saw it full on the forums, no?
Kitch
I’m a stunner. That all you need to know.
TSBonyman
