Despite Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls being tougher than that pork chop I overcooked last night, gamers lapped them up with each title breaking the one million sales mark.
Obviously encouraged, From Software will continue with the Souls franchise:
“Of course, it’s not over yet. You have to go back to our roots, which is King’s Field. We’ve made many games in that series. We’ve always been enamored by dark fantasy action RPGs. That’s just been our core DNA and I think we’ll continue to utilize that.”
Rather more interesting is From Software are now looking to expand their audience by looking into tablet and smart phone game development:
“We know what butters our bread, obviously it’s consumer games. That’s where we see some of our key strengths. That being said, as developers, we like to do new things and new challenges will help us mature and grow as a developer. Smart phones and tablets are an interesting challenge for us.
If we do go down that path, it’s not going to be what you see on the market today, [which are] more watered down, less ‘core’ experiences. We like to make games for core gamers, so if we take that approach, it’s going to be a core experience on a tablet, something that gamers are going to love.”
It’ll be interesting to see what they bring to the table.

Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls are awesome, true masterpieces. As long as the next game won’t be exclusively on tablet PCs, this is great news :)

Would you throw one at the wall?

Lovely seeing them branch out. Hopefully they can bring something fresh to the iDevice consumer too.

I want buttons, typing with this piece of crap annoys me enough as it is. No sale.

Vita version would be very nice.

Oh dear. Cue plenty of already angered commuters now snapping when they die, lose all souls, and have to start over. I can hear the smashing of smartphones already!

I’d take more home console Souls games. Not even remotely interested in them on phones. I learned when I had an iPhone that phone gaming just isn’t for me apart from one or two types of games. As an information gathering device, they’re hard to beat.
