EA has responded to complaints regarding the lack of public servers in Battlefield 3, with VentureBeat reporting at least 170 official PlayStation 3 servers are now available.
“You should see DICE-hosted servers up today,” said an EA spokesperson.
“I do not have the exact percentage or number of servers, but we’ll continue to monitor this to make sure all players are having the best possible game play experience,” he added.

Can’t say I’ve ever played BF3 or that it’s a title that particularly interests me, but I’m astonished at how much effort is required on the player’s part just to have a bog-standard online multiplayer experience. Gaming shouldn’t be like this. It should be accessible and let you jump in and have fun with minimal fuss.
This gen has produced some truly wonderful games and a brilliant number of new IPs that it probably doesn’t get enough credit for. However all the nonsense of DRM, day one DLC, one disc DLC, online passes, pre order and subscription bonuses making online play uneven, cynical annual releases and more besides really does leave a sour taste in my mouth.
it doesn’t take much effort to join a standard server. at least to me it seems people are making a mountain out of a molehill of the whole thing.
It takes some effort dude, not a massive amount but if you’re relaxing after getting off a 12 hour shift at work, the last thing you want to do is search through pages and pages of servers for a normal server one.
Well done EA – Sure, backtracking probably doesn’t feel good, but you will have pleased quite a few customers with this news.
It’s not been an issue for me as yet due to only playing once a week, but i do think the option of an official server should definitely be there alongside the rented ones.
