As we approach the two year anniversary of PlayStation Plus, rumours are starting to surface that something big is coming to the premium subscription-based service that has seen those that pay out the modest fee receive advance buying options, lots of free games and some technical advantages, like automatic downloads.
However, we’re hearing on the grapevine that there’s more to follow, and whilst we can’t advise everyone to rush and shell out for an annual sub just yet, we reckon something’s happening that might well tempt those that are yet to dip their toes into the Plussy waters.
What is it? We don’t know – honestly. We’ve tried probing our usual contacts but nobody’s telling us anything, other that what we’ve gleaned from a few SCEE Twitter accounts (which we’ll not make a big deal of) and a couple of willing but tight-lipped folk around the industry.
So, whilst there’s nothing concrete, the messages we’re getting suggest it’s going to be something of an innovation and improvement as opposed to anything like a specific game or freebie, although that could happen too. It’s coming up to E3, could it be related to the events and titles on the show floor? There’s some talk that this could be linked.
We’ll see, but in the meantime feel free to speculative wildly – if you will – in the comments below.

Maybe a choice of free game from some of the big E3 ones prequels? Like earlier assassins creeds etc. I hope its a new service whatever it may be though.
Might just buy a 3 month sub and see what happens. Don’t want to be left out if something awesome comes along and it only be offered to existing PS+ accounts.
But it could be for existing plussers, or it could be for new plussers, so either way you could lose out.

I’ll still get the 3 month sub I think, there’s nothing else coming out on PSN that I want until Rainbow Moon end of June’ish.
But if he buys it now before they announce then he would be classed as na exitisn Plusser surely, Surely they wouldn’t penalise you because you bought a sub based on these rumours

I think if they are announcing something big for Plus, it’ll be to gain new subscribers. So you might not need to get a sub yet. Also, what if whatever they’re offering is only provided to annual subscribers..
Hows about free access to sony’s videos and movies?
That would be good! Maybe one or two free rented SD films a month?
Won’t be just Sony Movies though.
Plussers get fully authorised access to the FBI database!

Yeah, I saw a couple of people suggesting that, even if you’ve never had Plus before, you might wanna pick up a sub now. Maybe all the E3 on-stage demos will go out to subscribers!

Can’t imagine they will alienate new customers by offering something better to existing ones, but I can’t see them offering a better deal to new ones.
Maybe the tiered system is coming. I would expect existing users to get upgraded for free, if it is.
Or something completely different.
Uncharted+Uncharted2 was my guess, but for them to specifically mention “if only for 3 months” suggests to me something E3 related
Lets hope they don’t follow skys motto of stuff the existing customer and offer the world to new business.
I’m going to bide my time….. then jump back on board if its awesome!
