Sony’s press conference was missing a few aspects we were expecting, but one of them – cross game chat – briefly appeared over on the official site before disappearing just as quickly.
As mentioned by our eager-eyed readers over in the firmware 3.40 post comments, the page for PlayStation Plus originally talked about cross game chat.
“Invite your friends to chat online no matter what game you’re all playing,” it said, “even if they aren’t members of PlayStation Plus.”
Regardless, it’s now gone. Whether this was an error, or part of a future reveal it’s hard to say, but at least someone got a screen grab to prove it was there at some point tonight.

Maybe part of the unannounced FW 3.40?

Looks like it’s been pulled from the various Euro sites
Surely would have got an E3 mention if it was coming… wonder if it adds a big overhead to the network, or whether some games are just incompatible

I hope it’s got it, I know a lot of people don’t want it but they don’t have to use it, I personally think it would be a great feature that I would use a lot.

Seems like an error to me. Why would it be there in English, when the rest is in… what is it, Dutch?

It’s translated and stitched together, I assume.

I doubt Sony would’ve kept this a secret to reveal it some other way, looks like it’s not going to happen.

It’s actually more of a premium service than something you should expect it to have, so I would also argue it should be charged for.

Finally! Cross-game chat is coming to the PlayStation Network! After what seems like years of demand, Sony has announced cross-game chat, which allows PSN members to talk to each other, even while playing different games. However, the oft-demanded feature does come with one large caveat: chats can only be initiated by PlayStation Plus members.
PlayStation Plus members will be able to send invites to any member of the PlayStation Network, free or paid. Up to four PSN members can be in a party chat, however at least one participant must be a member of PSN+. The chat will discontinue if all paying members disconnect.

Damn, just about to post this. :p
I wonder why they didn’t mention it in their conference as part of Playstation Plus? Seems weird they wouldn’t have wanted all the features they’re introducing mentioned… :S

I imagine its just something that they want to save for a future reveal.
