PlayStation Plus Rumours Kick Up A Gear

Following on from our report at the weekend – where we hinted at a remixed PS3, streaming and expansions to the current PlayStation Plus service – further rumours have surfaced in relation to the same discussion.

“Multiple sources have indicated that part of Sony’s E3 press conference,” say Eurogamer, “will be devoted to running through the revamp, which is designed to help convince more people to sign up to the premium subscription service.”

[drop2]We’ve heard similar talk in the last couple of days – the term we’ve heard used for this Plus thing was “relaunch”, which unofficially will feature a good selection of games for subscribers to pick from.

The other rumours point to integrating PS Vita with the existing service – exclusive games, massive discounts and cloud saving, all of which are currently missing from the portable’s Plus subscription details.

SCEE’s Ross McGrath continues to hype whatever’s coming via Twitter – “oh f**k, absolutely yes,” he said today when asked about buying Plus from an Australian user, based on his earlier Tweets. He’s confident, but knows what’s going on.

To be fair, these latest rumours don’t really say anything that we haven’t already heard or discussed, but it’s reasonable to remember that there’s rarely fire without smoke, so – as we said a few days back – all eyes on Sony this E3. If Plus is boosted as much as we’re hoping, it could be massive.

  1. I would like for them to boost the memory of the cloud saving. 150MB isn’t really that much for me.

  2. Really hope PS3 side of PS+ isn’t diluted by offering Vita content… Once all the E3 & relaunch has died down, of course, as that’s bound to be amazing.

  3. Can’t say I’ve had anything complain about with plus. In general, i’d say its been a terrific year for Playstation. The PSN has been full of great games and good deals so I can only hope they blow my mind at E3 this year and we have a lot to look forward to for the future. In addition to this, I hope whatever they announce has an emphasis on ‘core’ gaming because I don’t have any love for the growing ‘family game’ trend with the Wii, Move & Kinect.

  4. PSN ID change would be extremely helpful actually, I have sparks of creativity and i’ll think “oh that’s a great idea for a Gamertag/PSN” every so often. I’m not going to get all the Trophies/Game progress all over again just for a new name. It’s a small idea (and definitely not an idea of my own) but it would be another step towards overhauling the rivals on the path ahead. Another would be cross game chat, would open up many possibilities that only Xboxers can enjoy atm. Gaming wise, although RS have said they won’t announce anything, i’m hoping they might prove that to be a white lie and give us a nice surprise. We’ll see. Going to be very interesting what comes out of all parties at E3 this year as always.

  5. Why don’t they just give backwards compatibility to the Vita like they did in Japan…
Giving PSplus futures won’t save the console.

  6. Does this really say “exclusive games”? Seriously, give plus users a discount but don’t deny games to non-subscribers. That would be a dick move…

    • Timed exclusives would be better.
More of an incentive to join without completely shafting people.
I know they do it now, but not very often it seems.

  7. This is being hyped up quite a bit. I’m with Plus either way, so it’s win win for me.
