If you’re into the fighting game scene or a fan of Capcom’s genre-leading titles, you’ll know Seth Killian. He was the face of Capcom’s fighting games since he joined that company in 2006 for Street Fighter IV. Killian left Capcom on June 22nd to “embrace a new dream”. That dream seems to be at Sony’s large Southern California studio.
Seth Killian, always a staunch supporter of the fighting game community, has today introduced himself on the PlayStation Blog. He’ll become a Lead Game Designer for Sony Santa Monica and, in his post on the blog, he mentions his office being situated between the teams working on Unfinished Swan and the team working on God of War: Ascension. That diversity seems to be a big attraction for him.
Another big attraction might be the development of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, which he will no doubt be championing for the duration of its development and post-release support. That support starts very soon, with PlayStation’s first official appearance at EVO, a fighting game tournament.
Killian is a big boost to PlayStation’s roster and his commitment to the community, as noted by our own fighting game afficionado, is a very promising sign for where Sony will go with All-Stars. Exciting times ahead for that game and for everyone at Santa Monica Studios, whose diverse range of projects seem to be a great asset.

Smart move by Sony there. Especially the Evo stuff.

Well, that explains why I’ve never heard of him. :-)

Me neither. I think the last fighting game I played was IK+ on the C64 :)

EVO is not just a fighting game tournament. It’s THE fighting game tournament. This is big for both Seth and Sony. I’m happy about this.
It’s also bigger this year

Santa Monica’s a great asset for Sony, ’nuff said. ;)
