To be fair, they actually look hugely convincing, especially given that the latest firmware (or, at least, 4.20) indicated that we might be seeing a new disk loading method.
The base section matches the FCC filing, and the notches in the black and white PDF sit where the LEDs are in the mock-up, so everything that’s in the design doc is at least copied over to these concept illustrations by the artist.
You can see the whole set here on GAF.

This is nonsense isn’t it? Some drawings made by some dude guessing what a new ps3 may look like.
As I’ve stated many times, the change to “remove” disc is utter nonsense, it won’t remove the disc, whether its top loader or otherwise, the disc will not be removed by choosing that option.

Fuck, I liked my own comment by accident now can’t unlike it. How sad?
Forrest_01
Interestingly enough though, a couple of people seem to like that you can’t unlike.
Unless you have done it again of course. :)

@Forrest He’s on a roll :P
gazzagb
Hate the look of that, I bet it’s made out of really cheap plastic too with a horrible finish.
tonycawley
It’s not made of anything, did you read the article? This is just some dude’s guess as to what it may look like.
stueeeee
Well the ps2 slim wasn’t that bad. I preferred the big ps2, but with the ps3 I dont mind the current one. As long as its quieter, even my slim is slightly noisier now.
JBoo
I hope it’s a LOT slimmer & smaller than the PS3’s is now + a quieter PS3 would be cool. Mine is ok but after 45 minutes(ish) i can hear it(the Fan) & i would just love it to be dead silent(mainly silent for watching Blu-rays really)(oh + PS2 playback back…LoL did i just say that again?!?!?!?!?!?!?) :D
Kivi95
Well my phat ps3 might die(hoppefully it will be alive until ps4) so a new version that would be cheaper would probebly be a buy. Relly don’t care how it looks.
ron_mcphatty
Give it a 64GB budget hard drive and a £99 price tag and I’m there. It would be a shame for Sony not to make this, if only so that they can rival the tiny dimensions of the amazing PS2 slim, as long as miniaturisation is still fashionable then why not.
Forrest_01
I don’t think people would be interested in a 64gb HDD these days tbh – I know i wouldn’t. People generally want more & more when it comes to space not less.
Its also a possibility that the HDD might be locked into this console, so would be a much smarter idea to get at least 120GB in there i think (if that is the case of course).
I see what you are saying (which i assume is in relation to reduced costs), but with the size of mandatory installs etc at the moment, i am not sure how those that remain with a 60GB are surviving unless they are literally playing one game at a time & nothing else.
colmshan1990
That’s 2 Uncharted 2 downloads, + OS space.
Not very much.
Still, the Xbox 360 Arcade still sold a lot, and if it’s still swappable, it would probably be the best idea to make the HDD as small as possible.
ron_mcphatty
Mandatory installs, fair point. You’re right, 120GB would do the job more suitably :)
Sympozium
120gb isn’t enough too, thats mad.
I’d say 1tb.
Forrest_01
1TB isn’t ‘necessary’ though, that’s more of a ‘nice-to-have’ – I am currently using a 120GB model & it generally does the job quite well.
Could i use more space? Sure, but i have a habit of starting something & moving onto something else (to come back to it later), so i have many a utility file that isn’t in constant use.
For a small to medium user (who is likely to only play a few games at a time rather than 20-30 as i do), 120GB should be more than sufficient.
Plus, the whole point of the slimmer models is to make a cheaper model right? Can’t see it being a great deal cheaper with a 1TB HDD.
hazelam
if you’re a plus subscriber, believe me, 120gig is not enough.
not since last month anyway. O_O
Kennykazey
Top loading, so nineties.
ico
My points would be :
1) how smoothly does the top open as that’s how we used to judge the quality of a tape deck back in the day and
2) toploader? Urgh, no thanks. That sort of stuff went out with, er the band Toploader.
I shall not be dancing in the moonlight if this is true.
job
if its cheap and silent then im in.
dimjim94
If this happens, i reckon they’ve gone backwards in terms of accessibility. Original PS3 was touch sensitive disc eject and power on/off; then PS3 slim turned to buttons, then there going with the original design from the PSone for the so called ‘Super Slim’. In all honesty, i wouldn’t buy it unless it was dirt cheap
ico
Backwards in terms of accessibility no doubt but not compatability I imagine!
