The press invite we’ve just received locks down the date as Tuesday 14th August and it’ll be at 7pm local time, at the Staatenhaus am Rheinpark, Cologne, Germany.
It’s highly likely that Sony will be showing off the new CECH-4000 model PlayStation 3 at the show, and hopefully picking up the slack of some new PlayStation Vita reveals.
TheSixthAxis will be attending the press conference and we’ll have our usual coverage of all the news, reveals and rumours during the show live from Germany and from here in the UK.
JBoo
“It’s gonna be a big one” Thats what she said(she was sorely disappointed) LoL:D
I can’t wait! ! ! :P I hope we see the new PS3(if true, but i ‘think’ it is true) ;)
+ It will have PS2 playback to…Ahhh if only :(
Taylor Made
We in 2012 & you still talking ps2 playback come on man get a grip, a ps2 is like £20 or less on eBay if you want ps2 playback that bad bid for one on eBay Jheeze 2001 is long gone
freezebug2
I think that they will focus more on the new PS3 than the Vita, simply because anything new for the Vita will only take 20 minutes of conference time. Don’t go for a burger, otherwise you might miss it!
TrialByFire
PS2 playback? Grow up and move on.
You do realise everyone is laughing at people that keep ranting on about PS2 emulation and OtherOS….
Since SSX got released, there is almost nothing left that’s not already superceeded by PS3 versions….
Boiler
As Homer would say, “Booooring!”
A new PS3? Wow! You now what? I already own a PS3.
I’m glad late adopters can get a nice new slim PS3, but that’s all it is. It plays PS3 games.
Where’s my PS4? This generation is starting to lag.
fs
Its going to be a long cycle, this current gen. We know that. Sony lost a lot of money on he PS3 to begin with, its only just began to recoup that money. PS4 won’t be for another two years at least dude. I can’t honestly see whats wrong with this gen though? Constant PS + support, re-releases of brilliant PS2 games, some great new games and now a new console meaning even more people on the PSN. It’s not going to get any different any time soon, so you may aswell just get used to it and enjoy it.
KeRaSh
Where’s Cross Game Chat? >_>
AG2297
@FS I have to disagree, and everything points the other way to what you’re saying. There is no way they will wait at least 2 years, that will be too long and they will risk losing their early adopters (the people who spend the most money on their gaming hobby).
Constant PS+ support? That’s great, but next-gen should bring a new PSN all together, one which has the infrastructure to allow good quality voice chat (including cross game chat). PS+ support will be there on the PS4, but hopefully with a network that works a lot better.
Re-releases of PS2 games? That’s always going to happen on any platform with older games, but to delay innovation and progress for that would be insane.
Next Xmas seems the best time for the next gen consoles, any later and they could face a VERY stale console market with games available at a much higher quality, higher interaction (multiplayer/co-op) and much cheaper and easy to access. Catering only to the market who buy the console 3-4 years after it has been released who only buy the odd re-release or new game or two a year is not going to help at all.
bunimomike
You know what, Boiler? Sony have more to think about than you! :-\
They have millions of people to tend to and millions more to get on board. If a new form factor means it’ll get its way into even more homes then Sony will make more money and be able to stay in the video-game industry that much longer (and more successfully).
Boiler
Just my opinion, bunimomike.
I know we’re in a recession, I know no one has any money for new technology … but I do.
I’m always a new adopter and I like new stuff.
I realise Sony are a business and I probably fall into a slim minority, but that’s the way it is.
I like to be wowed by game experiences.
Not just new shiny graphics, but new experiences, cool AI, bigger maps.
After a certain period in a generation games start getting samey and you need new hardware to make the next leap. That time is long overdue IMO. (PC is rocketing ahead with 64 player destructible environments in Battlefield.)
The only games I’m looking forward to on PS3 are Last of Us for the AI. Unfinished Swan for how novel it is. Maybe Beyond Two Souls for the story telling.
And yes I like graphics. And this gen maxed out ages ago with Uncharted 2. Yeah maybe there’ll be some marginal improvements, but not many.
Yeah gameplay is king, but I want to be wowed!
I want my cake and to eat it. I have the money. Bring it on.
I guess my only option is to buy a Wii U and maybe build a gaming PC too. But I don’t want to build a gaming rig because I’ll be constantly buying GPUs because I’ll always be wanting the best graphics etc.
bunimomike
Thing is, you end up coming across as a spoiled brat with the whole “me, me, me” attitude. Sure, Sony like to give the illusion that the individual consumer is looked after but they have to tend to their own business first. If they are making the best decisions for themselves then it means they’ll succeed and then hopefully turn their gaze to us – although I appreciate some of this goes hand-in-hand.
One of my best friends is a complete graphics whore. He’s been moving slowly over to the PC (and does so to the latter part of every console generation) but he knows he has to wait for when the time is right. Not for him but for the console manufacturer. Obviously, if one of them is being a complete tool then he’ll call them on it but until then… patience! :-)
bunimomike
Ah, forgot to say. How you come across is not how you might be. Didn’t want you thinking I was saying that. :-)
Boiler
I’m the customer. I’m always right! ;-)
And I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said.
Sony are going to do what is right for their business. And they are totally right in what they’re doing. They’ve got their shareholders to pacify and they’ve got to appeal to the masses not the individual.
Doesn’t mean that their solution is right for me though. Everyone’s different (and all that).
I think Sony and MS should do what Ninty did with the N64.
When they added that extra RAM slot.
Remember how Rogue Squadron ran in two different resolutions depending on whether you had the RAM or not?
Have a similar thing with the PS4/XBox 8. Have games that run identically in terms of models, assets, AI all that stuff, but on the standard machine for the masses run it in 720p 30fps
And on the ELITE version (sarcasm) run exactly the same game, but in 1080p 60fps.
The Lone Steven
That is not true. The customer is not always right. I work in retail on a voluntary basis and i’ve had a lot of customers make easy mistakes. Or try to get something reduced by an unreasonable amount etc… Plus if the customer was always right, then EA wouldn’t be making any cash. ;)
I think MS and Sony won’t bother with offering two differn models with different RAM as it’s probably cheaper to offer the same amount of RAM accross every model. Plus, i think they don’t want to split their userbase in half as it could result in some developers having trouble trying to code a game for both users and could result in a game not working for one user if they happen to have less RAM.
AG2297
@Steven The phrase “the customer is always right” is not something that you’re meant to take in the literal sense of right or wrong! *facepalm*
Boiler
@AG2297 – Ha ha. I wondered if anyone was going to point that out to Steven.
Sympozium
Yeah, I’d rather know about a real PS4 leak next year.
baggyg
Last Guardian please….
hazelam
sadly, i can’t see them showing that there.
if we see it again this year it’ll be at TGS i reckon.
Jas-n
Tis annoying I’ll be in Germany 2 weeks before, if only if it was in the same 2 weeks, then I could have hopped from one to the other.
Pah.
Bilbo_bobbins
I thought something big as in PS4, but honestly they need to concentrate on Vita IMO as they forgot about it for E4.
Nice the ps3 is getting slimmer, but honestly its hardly massive news.
hazelam
maybe they’ll have some news about the Gaikai deal, and what it will mean to us gamers.
Lymmusic
Us gamers or US gamers? :)
hazelam
Us as in we the gamers, not american gamers.
ok that may be the first time my lazyness over capitalisation has impacted what i was saying, as far as i can figure.
besides, the yanks had their show, this is ours. ^_^
Awayze
I need the new PS3 slim! My 80Gb’s wifi is super slow, takes 2-3 minutes to download 1MB of data where as the slim I used to have took a few seconds.
hazelam
2-3 minutes per megabyte?
that’s like, dial up speed isn’t it?
KeRaSh
Not that excited about the new PS3 model. I already own a PS3. I want to hear some juicy new Vita game details!
Tomhlord
Lets not get our Vita hopes up too high here…
damoxuk
As it’s germany expect to see some Train Sims coming to the Vita.
Or Traffic Congestion simulator where the highlights are wiping the Vita’s screen to clear the front window or doing crosswords in mini-games to pass the time..
hazelam
i’d have thought the train sims would come from japan.
