Microsoft Backpedals On “New Xbox” Quote

Yesterday Microsoft effectively confirmed that a new Xbox was coming. They said it themselves, or rather, Brian Hall, General Manager for Windows did.

Tonight though, the official line has rolled out and it appears we all made a very silly mistake.

“The comments to The Verge were not understood in their intended context,” says the statement. “When Brian mentioned a ‘new wave of products,’ he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass.”

Of course – it’s pretty obvious now, and yes – we do feel a bit silly for misinterpreting the quote.

We’ll just leave this video here. Skip to about 1:40.

Do you feel silly too?

  4. I don’t see the point. If there isent any evidenceof next gen by next year then a lot of people are gonna be very worried. Not me personally, I’m expecting a baby in less than a month and still have a good back catalogue of ps3 games to play, but everyone knows that there is new tech around the corner. Just like the iPhone. They should just admit it. But obviously that would hurt their current gen sales I suppose…

    • You wont touch that ps3 once that little one comes lol

      Trust me.

      • Yeah I’ve heard that from a few people lol. Looks like I won’t b needing a ps4 for a while.

    • Congrats on the baby. :)

  5. pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

  6. What’s XBox Smartglass? Is it another name for Surface?

    • Nah, it’s an interactive connection between Xbox apps/games and your smartphone/tablet. Much like the Wii U tablet screen in functionality.

  7. 1.40 talks about Hotmail.com ? Can’t be bothered to listen to anymore.
