Diablo III Announced For PS3 And PS4

Well this is a surprise, Chris Metzen from Blizzard has just taken to the stage and announced Diablo III not just for PlayStation 4 but for dear old PlayStation 3 as well. “Blizzard and Sony have entered into a strategic partnership through which we will take over the world,” he quipped.

“Console development is in our blood, we are really passionate about it and we have held a deep desire to get back in the mix and and to bring console players in,” he continued.

He the said the game looks “amazing, it runs really well on PS3”, and that they have “painstakingly optimised the controls” so it has “never been easier to play.”

He also revealed the game will have four player local co-op and that they had solved the problem of one character wandering off – quite how that works is unclear. This was because they wanted to make the game a social experience, “One couch to rule them all”

A full reveal including a demo will occur at PAX East.

  1. Great news and very healthy for Sony. Sacred 2 worked well with “direct control” so i’m sure Diablo III will too.
I actually only completed two play-throughs of Diablo III as it didn’t grab me like the second did, but on PS3 / PS4 I think the temptation to get a looting fix will be too great to resist.

  2. Certainly suprised, I thought it was going to be the unannounced FPS MMO, Titan.

I wonder if they’ll compensate people who bought it on PC in any way.

    • Why the feck would they compensate PC players for releasing it on PS3/PS4…?!

      • I think he means if people bought it for the PC, will they give a discount on buying another copy for PS3/4.

If he doesn’t mean that, then I have no words.

  3. not really sold on a ps3 version, but its the ps4 version that peaks my interest, not the game itself, but the infrastructure. Will blizzard force console players to log into battle.net to play the game? Will there be an auction house? Does this mean that the ps4 is open for publishers using always on DRM? IMO announcing diablo 3 just creates more questions that I probably don’t want to know the answers to.

  4. The announcement of a year old PC is not so exciting, but the fact they’re now working with Blizzard is.

    • Yeah, I was thinking “please don’t announce D3, please don’t announce D3…” but with all the rumors of a console version of the game, long before it actually came out on PC this was a given.
I didn’t catch the 4 player local coop part before, so that slightly raised my interest. Played through the PC version once and got bored on my second playthrough.

      • Yeah I didn’t find it surprising either, with all the hints given so far. I probably wouldn’t buy it, but it’d have great reception as a plus game. Or they could just fix the network issues on GOME and I’d be happy with that.

      • Jep, the same thing went on my head as well. Not diablo, not diablo, not diablo … as soon as the tune started playing I was:” no no no no ” hehe
        Oh well :)

  5. Might have to pick this up. Feel it would be rude not to.

  6. Erm….surprise? really?.

PS3 version been rumoured for ages now, feather in Sony’s cap to get it mind and indeed great to see it on both platforms, but it’s an ‘always on’ internet connection game, right?.

    Hmmmn.

  7. I guess SONY are getting all these geeky-pointy-haty :D games to please the American Xboxers??? LoL:D The best bits of last night were the PS4 games for me(i wanted to see more tho, like from ND & GT6 stuff, but i guess they are saving that for E3) :P KillZone looked like i was watching the Newer Star Wars films at the beginning bit :P :P :P + i LOVED all the PS4 features it is going to have + the PS4 pad features :P PS4 = DAY 1 for me;)

  8. I’m seriously interested in this, as it brings more direct control and monocouch multiplayer.

  9. Was I the only one thinking some version of WOW on PS4 would be cool?

  10. But will it have all of the errors on launch day? too soon? (don’t kill me, Yourmumandme)

Will be interesting to see how a MMO does on a console and how it will be handled. Suspect the PS3 version will suffer from lag though.
