Following an early leak today, Sony have confirmed to TheSixthAxis that they’ve hired Silverstone on the 15th of May and will be showing “what’s next” for the Gran Turismo series.
The statement from SCEE says that the company will be hosting a “celebration of the 15th anniversary” of the series at the Silverstone circuit, and the event will feature Kazunori Yamauchi himself, who will “provide an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game.”
Most assume it’ll be Gran Turismo 6 – the video above gives that away nicely in exactly the same way Sony did with the PS4 in New York. TheSixthAxis believes it’ll be for PS3.
In addition, five GT Academy champions will be present, “showing off their real-world racing skills with some high-speed passenger laps”. The statement teases the inclusion of the host track.
“The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation,” says Sony’s Jim Ryan, president of SCEE. “We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia and Japan.
TheSixthAxis still hasn’t seen an invite.
The official site has been updated.

Really excited about this, I’m still playing 5 regularly so more content is always a bonus.
This surely means that they have to have Silverstone in the game, I thought the lack of UK tracks in 5 was a little disappointing to be honest (other than Top Gear and London obviously). Either way I’ll be paying close attention on the 15th.

Ahahaha. I remember I was so psyched on the PS4 event when the screen flashed up with PlayStation, then followed by the numbers 1, then 2, then 3 and then nothing. It was an obvious tease. They did the same thing here and I assume that’s what you guys meant when saying this:
“Most assume it’ll be Gran Turismo 6 – the video above gives that away nicely in exactly the same way Sony did with the PS4 in New York.”.

Good stuff, does anyone else agree with me that the track shown at around 15 seconds is in game footage, placed with real-world footage of the car interior?
boeboe
Yeah I saw gameplay too
Kennykazey
All the cars he drove past were digital too, with numberplates “GT1”, “GT2” and so on. But the graphics weren’t up to next-gen scratch in my eyes, looked like a simulator.
freezebug2
Yup, in game footage with some Academy car clippage overlaid, or vice-versa.

I would suggest give GT5 a shot. There are a number of events, referred to as license events, that introduce you to the elements of driving technique and the differences between cars. There are driving assists such as the driving line which indicate where you should be on the road and when you should break before a corner (they won’t give you the absolute best time but are good enough). Also, I really liked the inclusion of Karts. They are a good vehicle to reinforce some of the basics of driving. Also I have found the people over at GTPlanet to be quite friendly and helpful.

Three flashes = three announcements? GT6, GT Vita and a Vision GT PS4 tech demo/teaser?
Pesico
Something like htat. I thought about that to, just not the state of what it would be for PS4.
hol
We can hope :)

I thought it was more like a “…” but that would have been too obvious. I like your idea better, though. :P

Polyphony to work on three at the same time?
None of them will release on time. In the next decade.

It’s the same as they did with the PS4 logo in NY. There’s one new game…

I just really hope they get rid of the horrid loading times. They were even horrid after a massive install.
maccas09
The loading times absolutely ruined it for me, main reason i can’t be bothered to even boot it up.
Looking forward to this though
Broonba
The GT5 load times are bugger all compared to waiting 5 minutes on a crappy Spectrum game loading in, trust me.
Lewis
What load times? I’ve got an SSD drive in my PS3 :)
E8_BALL_
“Spectrum game loading,”
only to have it crash at the end:)
Broonba
Cool. I can’t wait to see what Kaz has up his sleeve this time.
james_m2603
I refuse to get excited about this after the car crash* that was GT5.
Pun intended.
