Rumour: Press Release Says Gran Turismo 6 Locked For PS3, “Holiday 2013” Release

Ahead of today’s 15th Anniversary, a press release has apparently emerged and is doing the rounds on the internet. The press release confirms that the next Gran Turismo game – Gran Turismo 6 – will be released on PlayStation 3, as suspected, and is aiming at “holiday 2013”. The game will feature the most cars ever seen in the series along with a good number of tweaks and changes.

“GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface,” says the statement circulating around just now. “A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content.”

The statement also points to connectivity with smart phones.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, who will be presenting at Silverstone later today. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.”

The press release – again, we’ve not yet seen it first hand so we’re just going off reports online – claims the game will feature all the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5, with some consideration additions taking the total up to 1,200, with more to come as DLC. The statement also appears to promise lots of aero parts and custom wheels for “almost all cars”.

Seven new tracks will appear, Silverstone is one of them.

More is expected later today.

Update: it seems the sources posted before an embargo. One source has completely changed their article. CVG say “the leaked press release is not fake, though it does not detail many of the game’s features that will be revealed later today at a live event.” The title of this article has been edited to reflect the updated information. Official news should surface at around about 5pm.

  1. Thought it might just be for PS3 but a Vita version would have been better.

  2. This holiday season seems a strange time to release such a big game as it will undoubtedly take sales away from the PS4.

  3. GT6 or GT5+?

Think a Vita version is needed… and as for releasing Sony’s only true console seller on what will be a legacy platform & not on the new platform… the less said the better.

Hopefully they’ve learned how to make a UI, rather than the labyrinth of awful menus that was GT5… Oh… and the unforgivable loading times

Be interesting to see what gameplay mechanisms are at work in GT6 too, whilst the actual on track driving is unrivalled (and of course worthy of putting on the highest pedestal possible) its inflexible event & progression feels like something from a bygone era and is in need of a real shakeup.

Hopefully PD have made a game which doesn’t do its absolute utmost to piss you off wrapped around the best driving simulation on consoles, we’ll have to wait & see I suppose.

    • Without knowing anything about the PS4, how can you possibly know how relevant this is for a PS3 only release.

You should start reporting facts, stop making up news off the back of rumours and fulling in the blanks with your own made up information.

Until then, this is only ever be a lame blog, rather than a gaming news site.

      • TSA reports on news, rumours, features and everything else in the video gaming world. What a completely bizarre reply.

Fans of the GT franchise (which there are many of) are eager to know what today’s all about and I don’t doubt that most of the “rumours” today will end up being shaped into a factual article later on, backed up by whatever Polyphony tell us.

Chris (cc_star) – completely agree. Sounds like GT5+ so far so want to see what the real differentiators are to make it worthy of the GT6 moniker.

      • @ bunimomike True, but I do prefer news as in an actual report of factual information. It’s truly odd that people in general should want to spread rumours/leaks hours before a launch and those people are the ones (in my opinion) to blame for all this rumour crap.

I don’t blame TSA for reporting on the rumours because frankly if they didn’t report about this passion of PlayStation and GT, then it wouldn’t really make them ‘the’ site to rely on for updates in the gaming world, even if they are rumours by other people/sites.

But its the whole rumours spread before event by other people that annoys me. Why can’t they leave the GT guys to release the news they are so proud of when they want to. Half the excitement and pantomime effectively has been taken away from the GT6 news now.

      • Did type in a reply here but realised it would take over the comments section. Sooo… I started a thread to continue:

        Spangly Forum Thread Here

    • Well said. Everything that makes Gran Turismo one of the best simulators around is wrapped up by all of its shortcomings where other racers are miles ahead.

  4. I don’t care how many cars there are in total. I want to know how many of them are Premium models.
1080p without the framerate taking a hit?
Smoke without pixels the size of watermelons?

    • Reduced horizontal resolution?

      Like GT HD (1440×1080) & GT5 (1280×1080)… rather than 1920×1080 for ‘full’ 1080p

      • Well, I expect the full 1920×1080 resolution this time around. If they can’t manage that at 60 frames per second then they should just leave the PS3 behind and make sure they get it to run on the PS4.
GT5 was the very first GT that I have ever purchased (besides Prologue, which I think was miles ahead of GT5…) and boy did it feel half assed.
If GT6 has the same problems GT5 had then how can this not be seen as a quick cash in on the huge install base with a franchise that has millions of dedicated fans?
I really hope they’ve learned from their mistakes.

    • GT5 as updated is getting a constant 60 fps nowadays. In the dry anyway.

  5. Hmmm… PS3 only release meaning that they can offer the title digitally via its streaming service on the PS4 for a full RRP. Smart :)

  6. B-Spec had better still be in there :(

  7. Hopefully they’ve reduced the number of standard cars in favour of the cars you want to drive.

  8. Is there some sort of livestream for tonight?

    • I don’t think so. Apparently there’s a ,edia empargo that is not lifted until a few hours after the start of the event, which would be stupid if the world could watch the event live.

  9. Bring back Grindewald and Apricot Hill!

GT6 on ps3 may be a shrewd move, prolonging the life of the ps3 beyond the PS4 launch.
Not all ps3 owners are going to upgrade at launch, and those that fo may hold onto the ps3 for gt6 anyway.

    Saying that, I bought a ps3 as soon as GT5p was released…

    • “Bring back Grindewald and Apricot Hill!”

Also Seattle and Midfield ta very much ;)

      • Just “hearing” the word Midfield makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. :p

        And as requested by Tuffcub……..

Binky bonky boo, I smell of poo.

    • “Saying that, I bought a ps3 as soon as GT5p was released”

So by that logic, wouldn’t it make sense to release GT6 on the PS4 to encourage launch day sales?
Rather than to give PS3 owners a reason not to upgrade.

      • I realised I was contradicting my own argument, hence the ‘saying that’ introduction to that sentence.

  10. I’m a Super Mod over at GT Planet and having spoke to the site owner (who will be at Silverstone), they have not yet arrived at the track (en route now) let alone had press releases handed out.

    • Super Mod? If you have a cape I shall be most jealous! :-)

      • Cape and cookies (we get them when we ban people)

    • Good stuff, I’m watching the live blog over on your site now, just starting ;)

      • First pics are mainly coming via the twitter feed ;-)
