FIFA 14’s Ignite Engine Not Supported on PC

EA’s new Ignite engine, revealed last night isn’t heading to the most versatile, powerful platform for gaming (albeit with a variety of specs), at least not with this year’s edition of FIFA anyway; the optimised engine will only power the PS4 and Xbox One versions of FIFA 14 when it releases later this year, according to FIFA’s community manager Rob Hodson.

We’re not really sure why – and Hodson doesn’t clarify, perhaps it’s due to a low PC user base for the games, or maybe more low-spec machines run FIFA than higher ones? “I don’t have further information to give at this point in time mate” says Hodson in another tweet.

This essentially means that the PC version should be more akin to the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of FIFA 14 albeit with improved graphics and stability when running on a powerful system.

This could show a change in the market, with better visuals on consoles as opposed to PC for a change, although I’m confident that the PC will soon better the visuals of the PS4 and Xbox One – they’re not going to stop making better graphics cards in the next eight years, are they?

Meanwhile, you can see the new trailer for the Ignite engine, including a first look of a (pre-rendered) FIFA 14 below.

  1. Maybe its me but the Ignite engine looked very similar to the current one used in EA Sports games. That said I would like to see a new SSX using Ignite if animation is it’s strong point.

    • Shiny football helmets is the only thing I took from that video. The rest wasn’t impressive at all.

  2. To be fair I don’t think the engine is about graphical improvements it’s about being able to incorporate more realistic Ai and physics which you’re not really going to see from a video.

  3. Typical EA. Finally get synchronicity with consoles and then they move it. Cant see any technical reason why they did this, but just lost a customer. Well done EA!
