Contrary to recent reports of months upon months of PS4 shortages, Sony UK’s Fergal Gara has suggested that the second wave of PlayStation 4 stock will likely be arriving in days, rather than weeks or months, after launch.
Speaking with Eurogamer at EGX, Gara said Sony are continuing to work with retailers regarding final allocations.
“Everybody who has pre-ordered to date will definitely get a console prior to Christmas. The cut-off date for that was 5th August” confirmed Gara. “The overall volume point about the UK in those first few weeks of launch is substantial. We will fully catch up demand, probably not before Christmas but relatively quickly thereafter. That’s my current expectation.”
“So, a bit tight for the first few weeks before evening out quite quickly.”
Gara explained that some retailers have already stopped taking pre-orders whilst others are working on a first-come, first-served basis. He also said that unless Sony UK were “pleasantly surprised by a bigger launch day volume than expected” it is unlikely there will be PS4 units on retailers’ shelves.
“But a second batch of stock will be within the week probably, so we’re not talking about droughts for months and months,” he added.

cam the man
I had an email from ShopTo at the weekend guaranteeing a PS4 at launch, V happy.
Scythegpd
Yep, had an email and a phone call from game, guaranteeing in my console and choosing the bundle I want.
Pity I can’t get time off work that Friday :(
Tarbun84
Same here. Call from Game confirming 29th Nov and got my PS4, Killzone, Controller and Camera package. Very happy chappy. Also got Watch Dogs and Knack preordered
leeroye

I never got one? I pre ordered the day it was announced, in February.
Wardy-77-
Got the day 1 confirmation email from Game friday got the phone call today, got my Pre order upgraded in store this afternoon to the KZ DS4 Camera bundle fan daby dozy ;)
Old School
Cancel my last, got it lol.

I can’t see there not being stock on the shelves, they’re probably just trying to drum up even more preorders and also put a bit of fear into their Microsoft counterparts. It won’t be until about a week before launch when people cancel their extra preorders will we actually know what the demand will actually be.
HunterGatherer
How many people do you think are dumb enough to have duplicate pre-orders?
I will fully expect to see a massive shortage and a bun-fight over what few store units there are. Expect expensive bundles and not a console-only deal in sight.
tonycawley
Why would you have to be dumb to have multiple pre orders? I know people with 5 or 6,waiting for best deal before cancelling the rest. Nothing dumb about that, it’s rife.
gazzagb
It’s the exact opposite. The clever people placed multiple preorders so they could get chose the best deal as prices changed and bundles were announced.
It doesn’t bother me though as I’m not getting one – for a while, at least.
HunterGatherer
Errm, the price will be exactly the same everywhere £349.99. Unless you got staff discount like I did :-)
cnutard
I have two pre-ordered for the exact reason tony and grazza have given. And thank almight I did, as I realised after the cut of date that I actually, hadn’t gone through with my Amazon order, it was just sitting in my basket.
Luckily I didn’t have to go through the hassle on the other website, otherwise I could have messed up on both!
Will cancel my Amazon order soon (when I remember and I’m not being lazy).
cnutard
Sorry for the double post, but, damn my grammar sucks!
gazzagb
Who’s grazzer? :P
freezebug2
Not forgetting the Del boys that will see the multiple pre-orders through to purchase and then try to make a killing on E-Bay or similar closer to Xmas. Although this latest news snippet could scupper those entrepreneurial aspirations!

I wish I’d been cleaver enough to place multiple pre-orders.
I assumed most retailers would offer the same deals, or at least the console on its own price would be roughly the same.
As it turns out not, if like me, you only went with “Simply Games”.
When I pre-ordered it was for a PS4 console (inc 1 controller) for a price of £343.99. Then last Thursday I received an email forcing be to upgrade to a more expensive bundle £414.99. This included an extra sony controller (so two in total), plus a 3rd party charging cable. All whilst claiming it was down to Sony.
So I’ll be canceling SimplyGames on point of principle, not willing to be mugged off on a £71 surcharge (£21 on the 3rd party cable, if your assume the controllers worth £50).
To the back of the pre-order list I go, with another retailer.

What’s the point in getting one at launch date? Not many games and no doubt the UI will be buggy..I waited a year till I got my PS3 and in that time developers got more time on it and got better games…Sony kept developing features in the XMB…getting the PS3 on launch day was not that exciting…I’ll be waiting a year at least for the PS4…unless they release Mirrors Edge II…
HunterGatherer
The PS3 was rock-solid from the outset. Sure it was feature lite. Mine came with Firmware 1.20 I recall, and it wasn’t until 1.80 that things really fell into place.

Does anyone know if Amazon UK is going to be offering the Sony bundles to launch day preorders? I want the Killzone controller cam bundle.
lambchop
Me too! I’ve heard nothing as yet!
Dar-Kaus
Got my phone call from Game today while I was at work and ignored all other calls until I got it sorted :) got the Killzone mega bundle conversion confirmed now so can breath easy now, for anyone who’s interested in the DS4 docking station, I was told by Game me they may be in short supply so best pre order one if you want one on day one.
mudstuff
Also got called by Game and switched from my solus to the KZ4, controller and camera Mega Pack bundle. A bit miffed that Sony said it was going to be “a tenner either side of Xbone’s £430” and it came in a £540 but still a good saving. Interestingly, Game advised that Sony “TOLD” them what bundles they were doing AND informed they should sell for £450. Still, £100 for a game, second pad and controller is decent. Also got Watchdogs pre-ordered, can’t wait to play that.
