New PlayStation 4 FAQ Clarifies Friends Lists & System Activations

Sony have published a new FAQ which addresses different issues regarding using of the PS4 system, though some of the information provided, such as game sharing, is already known to us.

The FAQ reiterates that anyone who uses your PS4 system will be able to access the downloaded content, and also access PlayStation Plus features like online multiplayer without your account being signed in. This benefit extends to the primary PS4, which is your main PS4. If you also log into a secondary PS4 only your account will be able to access PS Plus content, such as downloaded games and online multiplayer.

There’s also mention of how the Friends’ list will be displayed across the Sony platforms, due to the capacity being increased to 2000 from the current 100 limit.

On the PS3 if you have more than 100 friends online then they will be displayed in alphabetical order. If less than 100 friends are online then all online friends will be displayed plus offline friends in alphabetical order. If your list has less than 100 friends total then friend requests, both sent and received, will be displayed. To update the list you have to sign out and back in again.

Both the PS4 and the Vita will be able to display the complete list of friends, though on the Vita some games will have limits set to 100, though there is a plan to show all friends in games.

Remote Play also looks to be locked to your primary PS4, as well as auto download of purchases using the PlayStation app. Deactivating a primary system can be done through the console if you decide to activate a different PS4 as the primary one.

  1. Does the faq say anything about total system activations? Sony currently have a 2 console activation per account limitation set up. Will ps4 count as one of those activated systems? Will I be able to have 2 ps3 systems and one ps4 or is it just one of each?

    • I would guess it would be 2, as both the Vita and PSP never counted against each other, also never counted against the PS3

    • According to the FAQ it says no limit on number of consoles you can use but only it does look like only two PS4’s can be activated at the same time. No mention of the activation relationship between PS4 and PS3.

    • It would be really stupid to be only able to have a PS4 or a PS3 as a primary console as neither can download and play the others PS+ games.

Any limitations will surely be kept to each console generation.

  2. Is there currently anything telling me if I buy the console in UK but play in Slovakia whether I will be able to access the UK store / online content?

  3. So if I have read this correctly. When I get my console and set up my account (already PS+) and my girlfriends (not PS+) on the same console, she can still use the games I get as part of PS+ and play online without the need for a second subscription.

I hope so I was worried that we may be conned into both having to buy PS+.

    • I believe it’s the same as with the ps3 any one who signs into your ps4 can play any games on the system.

    • Yes but only for the first, primary PS4 console in your home.
If you have a second PS4, she can only play online and access PS+ content through your account and not hers.

  4. 2000 friends is alot!
but that is good, to know that u won’t run out of spaces to put ur friends in! :P

  5. 2000 friends – it’ll never happen! I’ve already culled those who were offline for six months and now i’m down to around forty. :)

    • You’re lucky, I’ve only got 16.

  6. Is there a list of the games the DS4 can run with on the PS3 ?
