All Remaining Blockbuster Shops To Close This Weekend

Blockbuster has had a bad year in 2013, first going into administration in January before dipping in for a second time in October, and never being able to recover. After several rounds of closures, and administrators trying to find a buyer for the remaining parts of the organisation without success, all remaining shops will be closing for the very last time this weekend.

Speaking to the BBC, joint administrators Simon Thomas and Nick O’Reilly of Moorfields Corporate Recovery, said, “It is with regret that we have to make today’s announcement, we appreciate this is a difficult time for all concerned and would like to thank staff for their professionalism and support over the past month. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a buyer for the group as a going concern and as a result had to take the regrettable action to close the remaining stores.”

All remaining stock, in the few shops that remain open, will be going on sale for up to 90% off and is to be sold by the end of Sunday 15th December as they shut down by Monday.

Naturally, our thoughts are with all those who are losing or have already lost their jobs, and TSA would like to wish them all luck in finding new employment soon.

  1. I’m a bad person. All I could think was “ooh, 90% off, might be some good bargains there”!

Sorry for those losing their jobs who were employed by a company that doesn’t know how to keep with the times.

    • Ditto. Nearest store 0.9 miles away. That’s Christmas shopping sorted then!

  2. Bummer..right off to Basildon wallet on standby..time to plunder..

  3. Ahh muched loved blockbuster, i will miss u…even though iv not been in 1 for years.
Remember when you could rent consoles for a pittence with a deposit(which was less than the console price!!!)
Got my ps1 in what could only be described as a hard black suitcase from there with freaking wipeout and remember feeling rather hot, like to be robbed.
Anyways all the best to the staff in finding new jobs im off to get some 90% goodness.

  4. Not a merry Christmas for the staff, hope they find work elsewhere.

  5. Sadly the inevitable happened. Nevera nice time to lose your job but even worse at this time of year.

  6. surely all the staff should buy everything from the store at 90% off, then sell it all on ebay. That’ll get them through xmas before starting their new job at (insert local supermarket).

I did find it heart warming to see all our local blockbuster and game staff now working at local Tescos. Got a job straight away and like minded individuals brought together. A good ending to a bad story.
