SteamWorld Heist Announced For Spring 2015

SteamWorld Dig started as a 3DS game, before being remade for PC in full HD, and then arriving on PS4 and PS Vita before looping back around to Wii U and completing the circle of release, missing Xbox in the process, mind.

Now, Image & Form are creating a spiritual successor in the form of SteamWorld Heist. It’s set in the same world as Dig (in the future, after a cataclysmic event), but this is a game about “space adventures and survival” rather than digging to the bottom of the world. Combat will be turn-based, and you’ll control a group of robots as you scavenge by heisting bad guys’ ships.

Brjann Sigurgeirsson, CEO of Image & Form, stated that it’s not a sequel to dig, and revealed their thought process:

It’s set in the same world and the cowbots are still the heroes. But a lot has happened to SteamWorld since then, and we want to make a game that is radically different. Partly because we really wanted to make a turn-based strategy game, but also because it felt like a clever move.

No platforms have been announced, but here’s hoping SteamWorld will wing its way to PlayStation platforms again when Heist releases in spring 2015.
