Steamworld Heist Gets First Gameplay Trailer

Image & Form have revealed the new gameplay style for Steamworld Heist, the follow-up to their popular platformer, Steamworld Dig.

Fans of Dig will be quick to note just how different Heist will play when compared to its predecessor. Playing as Captain Piper, the aim of the game will be to recruit a team of rag-tag robots in order to explore and scavenge the remains of a destroyed world. The aesthetically pleasing art style from Dig remains, but in what feels like a risky move, the quick paced platforming has been replaced by turn-based combat strategy.

It remains to be seen whether this change in direction will be a hit or a miss for the developer. However, I think it’s safe to say that the song at the end of the trailer is a definite miss.

The game is set to release Fall 2015 on Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Steam and mobile platforms.

  1. Some turn based combat would be welcome, looks like it could be an improvement on the previous one, I hope it has a platinum trophy to hunt down this time.
    As for the song, yeah..

    • I really enjoyed Dig and I think I will like this one too, definitely like me some turn-based action. No idea what they were thinking with that song haha!

  2. I like the look of this, I need some turn-based action in my life.

  3. As someone who almost never plays platformers, yet finished this one having quite a bit of fun on Vita, holy smokes, I was not expecting it to go turn-based. I love turn-based games, played them all my life, I just wasn’t expecting this. Need to see more to warrant a purchase but I probably will for the Vita.

  4. Steamworld Dig was such a lovely PS+ game. Really, really enjoyed it. Might even give this a go even though it’s not in my usual genre of choice. Hope it’s a success for them.

  5. S. Dig was such a surprise for me. I would have completely passed on it if it weren’t for PS+. But I booted it up and then for 10h straight it was the only thing I played.
