Resident Evil 2 Remake Confirmed By Capcom

Capcom has given approval for Resident Evil 2 Remake to go ahead, though development is only just beginning on the project. The development team in R&D Division 1 has made the announcement through a video on Youtube, and has confirmed it will be looking for feedback from fans over time. There is no time frame yet for when to expect the remake to launch, nor have platforms been confirmed either.

Resident Evil 2 originally released back in 1998 so maybe Capcom will aim for the 20th anniversary in 2018, depending on how well the remake process goes.

  1. Amazing news. I hope it gets given the treatment it deserves. Similar to RE1:Remake.

I enjoy the challenge of these old survival horror games.

  2. Resident Evil 6 was supposed to give the fans what they wanted and look how awful that was.

A few years ago I would have been hyped for a RE2 Remake but I just don’t care about this franchise anymore.

    • Don’t be silly! Resident Evil 6 was great! I mean, you got COD, you got Uncharted and you got Resident Evil in one package! Now, if you excuse me, i’m off to drink a lot of bleach.

Jokinga side, hopefully, Resident Evil will ditch 6’s gameplay style and just go back to 4 or the games prior to 4’s gameplay.

    • Revelations 1&2 are more like the earlier Resi’s. Both quite good. Better than 6 for sure.

      • I tried playing the first Revelations on the PS3 but it just didn’t grip me. I only played an hour or so. I keep meaning to go back and finish it but I always seem to find something else I’d rather spend my time on.

I think if they hit the reset button and did a gritty reboot with new characters, I might get back onboard. But having the same invincible characters return in every game has ruined it. They’re like superheroes now.

  3. Oh my flipping god bbq111!otherletterstoindicateexcimentbecausewordscan’tstateit! I…

Pretty much don’t care about it. :( I want to but Resident Evil is pretty much dead for me. 6 is er… not good. It’s was also frustrating, cheap and made me want to punch something. Repeatly. Hopefully, they will give it the REmake treatment instead of the “Oh, you want it to be like 6/5, here it is!” treatment. I do hope that they won’t ram multiplayer in and just remake it as REmake 2.

Also, Capcom, what’s the catch? Is it going to have half the game as DLC? Will it have DRM forced into it?

  4. i’m not sure if this will be as good as the Resi 1 and Zero remakes, because they were ports of the Gamecube games that were remakes of the original PS1 games, well, 1 was, Zero was a new game made in the engine for the GC remake.

but you can’t fault this guys enthusiasm.

Resi 2 was one of my favourites in the series, so i hope they can put in enough effort to bring it up to the standards of 1 and Zero.

but with the way this industry’s going lately, bullets could be sold as microtransactions.

  5. YES, YES, YES a million yes (and yes I am having a joygasm…. who hasn’t) =P
Now that is a Remake not a remake from a PS3 or from 4/5 years old….
I am over the moon with this. I really hope for one more Resident Evil remake….. NEMESIS!

  6. nice, can’t wait, glad i brought the other remake! ;)

  7. Leon’s story on RE6 wasn’t too bad. I couldn’t put my self through the rest.

Though, I must add the story wasn’t exactly memorable, I can’t even remember what it was really about.

  8. Good stuff. Have pretty much given up gaming as a hobby at this stage but I will no doubt make an exception to replay one of my favourite games from my childhood.
