PS3 Preview Round-Up

It’s getting towards that time of year again, the time when all the best games are released and we get fat on high-calorie games after the fasting that is the summer season. Here’s a quick round-up of some of the best stories about the latest games.

First, there’s the hotly anticipated new Ratchet game from Insomniac. Gamespot’s Ratchet Preview has a lot of detail fresh the recent Insomniac Media Day. The R&C games were a watchword for fun, action platforming on the PS2 and the new game looks like it will take that to a new level. Not just graphically, using the power of PS3, but also the soundtrack, story and the best bit of any R&C game – the weapons. Expect lots of original ways to hurt the bad guys, and to be doing it all with a big grin on your face.

Gran Turismo has long been the king of driving games and so GT5 is probably at the top of many people’s PS3 wish list. You can see an excellent round-up of GT5 here at IGN’s GT5 Preview. Graphically it’s looking stunning and puts other games to shame. Full integration with Home is promised, but what exactly that will involve we don’t yet know. It would be cool to be able to park some GT cars in a Home garage, and invite your friends over to check out your ride, Cribs style.

Naughty Dog made a big splash on the PS2 scene with their Jak & Daxter series. Now they’re back with a new game for the PS3 – Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Three Speech have an excellent preview, which offers some great insight into the game. Naughty Dog’s pedigree is proven, chums so this is one we have high hopes for.

So, appetite sufficiently whetted, all we need now is a little patience.
