LittleBig, er, Continent?

News has surfaced that the user-created levels in LittleBigPlanet will be region-specific. That is, you won’t be able to download levels created by American and Japanese owners of the game if you buy the PAL version, unless Media Molecule deem the level good enough to copy over to the other servers.

Fan reaction has been critical, to say the least, but here at TSA weren’t not quite as sure it’s a bad thing. Yes, European kids are just as capable of making a penis out of a block of wood as American kids, but we’re fairly sure anything they can do we can do better. In short, I don’t think we’re missing out at all and if the level is really, really good then it’ll come over to our region anyway via the moderators.

The problem would be worse if you couldn’t play with friends in other continents, but this doesn’t appear to be the case, although there surely is some overlap between playing a game with friends on their own level if they’re from another region.

We’ll try and clear this up on Monday. Until then, please don’t fret, you know, we’ll be OK.

Update: Panic over, seems like C&VG got this one wrong.  We’ve checked for ourselves and the truth is that the level sharing is indeed region-free, and that there was some cross-communication with reference to how each individual region would moderate their own content.  LittleBigPlanet is indeed now planet-wide.  Phew.
