Uncharted: The Movie

We’re in the era of movie remakes this decade, and while we’re seeing many of the twentieth century’s biggest motion pictures get the CGI treatment of the new millennium, we haven’t seen many games take the spotlight. You could say that’s an understatement. We’ve seen the Silent Hill series grab its own Hollywood seat in 2006, and the Resident Evil series having it’s third film installment in 2007. There are are easily over forty productions that have been solely based on video games. But how many of these fims have actually become major hits?

With a next generation in gaming, we need a new load of game-based films, and Sony are stepping in with one of their leading titles. SCE confirmed today that they recently signed a contract with Columbia Pictures to create a film adaptaion of Naughty Dog’s 2007 ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ to be produced by Avi Arad, Ari Avad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. Avi Arad is responsible for the ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘X-Men’ series and has worked alongside Ari Avad in productions such as ‘Iron Man’ (2008) and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ (2008). Charles Roven has given us the epic ‘Batman Begins’ (2005) and ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008) films, and Alex Gartner has handled witty one-liners through productions such as ‘Get Smart’ (2008). All of these names together brings a rather promising premise for the outcome of an Uncharted film.

Evan Wells, Co-Producer of Naughty Dog asks Blog readers “so who do you think should play Nathan Drake?” That is a very good question. Whether or not the casting process has been or gone, who would you say would make a great real-life Nathan? and who would be Elena Fisher? what about Sullivan? Guess away.
