On The Stores This Week: 22/09/09

Welcome to another On The Stores, our weekly look ahead at what’s available for PS3 and Xbox 360 in the wacky world of digital downloads.  Not that there’s anything particular wacky about clicking a button and waiting for the thing to finally arrive on your console, mind, but it’s still ‘out there’ relative to walking down to GAME and handing over your hard earned monies.  Last week was something of a bumper week all round, so how does this week stack up?

Well, let’s start with the PSP, which as far as we know will be playing host to the wonderful PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe on Thursday – hopefully you’ll have read our review, but if not it’s a wonderful game and is absolutely the definitive version of PixelJunk’s take on the Tower Defense genre.  We still don’t know the price, but if it’s around the eight quid mark consider it a bargain.  We’re expecting more on the PSP, but there’s nothing else confirmed at the moment.

Onto the PS3, which will be playing host to the Lost Planet 2 demo – the playable section will allow gamers to sample a massive battle against the G-Type Akrid but will also come with two additional online co-op missions – let’s hope the visuals are up to scratch against the Xbox 360 version this time, eh?  Lost Planet 2 fans should also keep an eye out for the latest trailer of the game, which is also premiering on the PSN Store this Thursday.  Exciting, eh?

What else?  Well, look out for Zombie Apocalypse on both consoles, which is expected to be a penny under seven pounds (or 800 Microsoft Points should you choose to get it for the Xbox 360).  The twin stick shooter from Konami tasks the player with surviving the eponymous disaster with a plethora of weapons (including a flamethrower and a chainsaw) and sports 55 levels to try to survive through, as well as extra bonus modes to unlock.  We’ve not played this yet, but it sounds like delicious, simple fun.

Also debuting on the PS3 this week is the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3, which we revealed last week.  Broken Steel will be followed by the release of “Operation: Anchorage” and “The Pitt” on October 1st, and “Point Lookout” and “Mothership Zeta” on October 8th.  The game should already be patched with the Trophy unlockables for future DLC, so get the game booted up and ready for the first of the four massive downloadable expansions to this great game.

In addition to Zombie Apocalypse, Xbox 360 owners can look forward to 3D side scrolling beat em up The Warriors and the co-operative top down space shooter Ion Assault, both released tomorrow on the Marketplace although we’re assuming everyone’s going to be wrapped up in ODST.  Regardless,  that’s it for confirmed new content – it would be nice to see the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 demo on there for us Europeans and a chance to grab .deTuned would be lovely too, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
