Atari Announce Test Drive 2

We’ve been hearing rumblings about a follow-up to the outstanding open world racer Test Drive Unlimited for over a year now, but a press release apparently from Atari has announced the game for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC officially this morning, albeit not through the usual channels.

TheSixthAxis understands that the sequel will further expand on the MOOR system (Massively Open Online Racing) and will “revolutionise” racing with teams and sharing more important than ever before.  With vehicle damage, weather effects, day and night cycles, an “always live” online infrastructure and a brand new island to explore, we’re tempted to agree.

” Test Drive Unlimited 2 will be an innovative evolution in racing games, expanding its unparalleled multiplayer experience and immersing players in a world full of new online content and lifestyle customization.” said Jeff Lapin, CEO of Atari, SA. “The game fits squarely into our strategy of moving online and generating new revenue streams while maintaining our current retail business.”

If you never played the original game on the Xbox 360 it was a fantastic game, with players able to buy not only cars, but upgrades for their vehicles, houses and clothing for their on-screen avatars.  Test Drive Unlimited 2 could be fantastic – we’ll chase some screens if there’s any around.
