Rebellion Derby Staff Face Money Woes

News emerged back in March that Rebellion Studios were closing their Derby branch – formerly home to Tomb Raider creators, Core Design. As well as this closure, positions at the Oxford studio were also cut. It now appears that staff of the Derby studio aren’t getting their final pay-cheques or redundancy packages.

GI.Biz were sent an e-mail outlining the problems. Written by the wife of one of the studio’s employees, it claims that the company have failed to pay all remaining Derby employees any wages for the month of April. It also states that agreed redundancy packages for those who left in April remain unpaid.

It would appear that Rebellion are claiming to be experiencing financial difficulties and thus are unable to pay what is owed. GI.biz are also reporting that due to Rebellion Derby’s status as a separate legal entity, Rebellion are under no obligation to help out with the situation.

According to the e-mail, opinions are that the company are aiming to liquidate the Derby subsidiary in order to get out of paying any money that is owed. If this does come to fruition, employees will have to go through the Redundancy Payments Office in an attempt to regain at least some of the money that is owed to them.

Rebellion have yet to comment on the situation.
