HBO content will soon be available on the US branch of the PlayStation Video Store. Renowned for gritty shows such as The Wire and The Sopranos, HBO is regarded as a trailblazer for adult content in the US, bankrolling some of the best TV to come out of the States for a number of decades.
The new feature is the result of a deal between Sony and Home Box Office’s parent company Time Warner, with episodes of such shows as True Blood and Curb Your Enthusiasm costing a slightly higher than normal fee of $2.99 each. Eventually, new episodes will appear alongside their release on DVD. SCEA CEO Jack Tretton commented on the partnership:
“HBO is a high-profile content provider, and a real premium service, so we think this really reinforces that the PlayStation is more than just a video-game console now.”
Unfortunately, despite HBO having many arrangements for access to their content outside of their home-country, there are no plans for this HBO content to be available outside of the US through other PlayStation Stores.
