A new interview on PlayStation com with SCE President Shuhei Yoshida has revealed a couple of secrets regarding Gran Turismo 5. He says:
“Not only will Gran Turismo 5 deliver an even more comprehensive set of cars and courses than gamers saw with previous iterations, it will also feature new game-enhancing graphical effects such as damage, night racing and weather.”
“These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit, whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual.”
Night driving and damage we knew about, track creation had been rumoured and now it seems confirmed. Stunt arenas and go karting are new, is there anything GT5 won’t be able to do?

There was a racing game on PS2 that featured karting (i think one of the toca race driver games) and it was really good fun and if I remember correctly it even had lawnmower racing, although that wasnt that much fun due to the slow speeds.

The best news all year and is making Forza eat its hat and shoes! Track editor is amazing and keeps GT as the pioneering game of its generation. I know its been done before in things like Modnation Racers, but if the graphics, physics and fidelity are the same in user-generated tracks as originals … well they could charge we £60 for this and I would still buy on Day 1. I just need to get the latest Logitech wheel now as mine is old generation version.
Countdown to Nov 2nd starts now ….

Karting sans Red Shells? That’s crazy speak! In all seriousness though, I haven’t been interested in GT since the 2nd one, but this iteration sounds better and better all the time.
I am beginning to fear the install though.

STOP PRESS. latest GT5 additions are to be the ability to go to the drive through for some horrid high fat food and on sundays you can use the move controller as a hose to wash your virtual car collection. (source uncomfirmed)

If they’ve nailed the AI (which has been shit up until now) then I have no problem with the extra bells and whistles. If they have not, then they should be ashamed of themselves. Worryingly, there’s been no mention of AI improvement over the years. Anyone know any different?

If you check the videos on GTPlanet or search YouTube for the videos from this years Le Mans demo, you should see that the AI has improved a lot; I’ve seen videos of two AI cars driving side by side round a corner you’d normally expect single file on (something I can’t ever remember seeing in any other GT), and last-second corrections to avoid collisions.
Still early days, but I’d say the AI won’t dissapoint at this stage. Bring on Gamescom!

The more I hear about this game, the more excited I get about it!

If this game supports 4 player split-screen, then it’s PERFECT!

So all that’s missing is the ability to design your own cars, Forza style…
