R.U.S.E. Will Have Move Support

Ubisoft’s RTS R.U.S.E. will support PlayStation Move but not Microsoft’s Kinect when it launches this September. Confirmed during a hands-on event with the game in London today, developer Eugen Systems praised Sony’s new device as a “very cool and natural controller.”

Unfortunately for Xbox 360 owners, however, Senior Producer Mathieu Girard accounts the necessity to stand up when using Kinect as the main reason why motion control won’t be incorporated into the 360 version. This claim gives credence to the persistent rumour that Microsoft will literally get gamers off their collective arses if they want to interact with their tech.

In terms of what’s the best method when it comes to gameplay, Mathieu reckons using Move offers “the most enjoyable experience,” while if it’s accuracy you’re after, you can’t beat a traditional mouse and keyboard.

Finally, and also supporting recent reports that integrating Sony’s new controller into a game is far from an onerous task, Eugen Systems apparently only factored Move support in to R.U.S.E. “four or five weeks ago.”

  1. I think it could be a great mouse replacement. Although I’m afraid that you’ll need to use lot’s of shortcuts to play R.U.S.E. at a good, fast pace. (I played the demo/beta on the pc)

I hope this game will support mouse and keyboard aswell.

    First of many.

    • Indeed, fella. I remember a Wii developer saying how they were looking forward to multiplat titles where the motion-based control system would be very easy to cater for, when it comes to PS3 and Wii. However, he’d professed caution on 360 titles with a case-by-case situation. R.U.S.E. would appear to be uncontrollable with Kinect.

    • i think microsoft are going 2 have a future fail but i do no alot of people who think kinect is better but thats cus they are casual gamers so it will sell they will make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  3. I’m honestly in disbelief that you need to stand up to use kinect. I’ve read it before but didn’t believe it, now a game developer confirms it i’m in shock. Is that the worst bit of product design ever or what? Totally rules out any kind of game for kinect other than family orientated crap.

    • ? but thats what MS are going for. They are not after us, the proper gamer, they want the casual market. From its first revel you could see it couldn’t do what hardcore gamers want. not accurate enough to do finger movement, and to unresponsive to do do certain movements. I lot interest in it as soon as i read that it can only track 3inch areas (i think its 3inch, or something massive like that).

Keven Butler sums up Kinect very well.lol

      • Still, I’d be interested to see how Child Of Eden works comparatively on both machines. That demo of Mizuguchi playing it looked good to me.

I hope both techs work well (come release), are well supported, that we see great games for both and that, as gamers our hobby is enriched a little by their presence. I’ll wait and see.

    • I read somewhere also that Microsoft are using it in PR events such as the unveiling of the new Chevy in the US, i don’t know any more about that but i’m wondering if they are planning to sell this to corporations, businesses, etc. as a tool to use for their own presentations, bearing in mind (a) that kinect is as much about menu navigation as it is about games and (b) they are planning to bring the kinect technology to pc users.

  4. Once again confirming that Sony have designed a useful input device for gamers of all genres, whereas Microsoft jumped feet first on the Wii casual shovelware cash cow…

One of the things Sony said at the announcement of Move was that the focus was on tracking accuracy to enable it’s use in RTS games such as R.U.S.E., I’d say this is a huge boost to Move’s credibility as a useful and widely supported peripherial for PS3 gamers, rather than a gimmick with limited novelty value…

  5. RTS Support could be useful using move.

  6. We will be hearing lots of story’s like this over the coming year. There is a reason the PS2 EyeToy wasn’t a barnstorming success, adding a few tiny upgrades to a netcam isnt going to do much better MS?!?!

  7. PS 1 MS 0

  8. What is R.U.S.E. ?

    • What is TSA’s search functionality for?

Oh I kid … here, I did the leg-work for you.

      • Ah, cheers, well done. Now if you’d go and be a good lad and put the kettle on too. 2 sugars…
There’s also a bit of a draught in my office so if its not too much to ask just pull the door too on your way out. Cheers bud :)

      • “You want me to fetch your slippers, too? Look into my EYE, soldier.”

  9. I think Devs are going to have to think seriously about including Kinect in their games, I doubt many people will want to stand up just to play a game. This will probably be the first of many games that feature Move and not Kinect purely for this reason.

  10. I was down for a day one purchase of R.U.S.E and Move which are both release the same week, I wonder if retail will wise up to this oportunity and offer a bundle….nah, this is Game after all.
