It makes sense financially to trade in your current console when an upgraded version hits the market. Â Retailers will normally offer a decent deal to secure your pre-order, and in return you get the latest shiny thing.
Those wanting to trade their old Xbox 360 for the fancy new ‘slim’ one at GAME were left with a bitter taste in their mouth, as the trade in value promised was altered for the worse.
When the new Xbox was announced GAME stated that, for example, the trade in value of an old 60GB Xbox 360 against a new one would be £80.  Less than a week later this was dropped to £60.
Obviously this didn’t go down so well with the consumer, and GAME has had a rethink.  Those who can prove they pre-ordered before the price dropped will have their £80 trade in price honoured.
The new Xbox 360 is being released on July 16th – who’s getting one?

Not interested in getting a 360, my PS3 has more than enough to keep me happy. Sure there’s a few games that i’d like to play that are exclusive to the 360, but that’s nowhere near enough reason for me to buy a 360. In fact i’d probably find another PS3 more useful.

I know I may come across as a troll here but this is a genuine observation. I’m surprised the X-Box has survived this long with such a catastrophic failure rate. There are many different reports that I’m sure are influenced by who is trying to get their point across, but it’s an average of around 30-35% (once instance of as high as 51% in GI) compared to PS3’s average reported rate being just either side of 1%. 30-35%? That’s a 3rd of every console out there. Can you imagine going into a fast food place knowing you had the chance of every third burger having a cockroach in it? You’d never buy a burger there again and they’d go out of business.
If the PS3 had a failure rate that high that I, as an former owner of an original Playstation and PS2 would take my money elsewhere, so where is this blind obedience to microsoft coming from? 13 year olds harassing their uninformed parents to replace their broken toy for a second (or third, or fourth)time? Disposable income? I also have to assume these replacement purchases influence Microsofts sales figures. Does that mean the true customer base of the x-box is really a 3rd or more smaller that their sales suggest because a large percentage are repeat buyers on their 3rd x-box? Just one mans opinion/thoughts.

Look at this way.
Failure Rate (FR) is good for Sales Numbers (SN) on consoles.
So if system has 30% FR then to get true number from SN you need to deduct 30% from SN.
ie Say SN are 1,000,000,000 and FR is 30% that real SN of 700,000,000.

What the general public tolerate is incredible. Think about product recalls. Entire lines of product recalls. Car manufacturers that recall half a million motors because they have the same dodgy handbrake problem.
Because we don’t think as a group we treat everything as an individual. We’re used to the odd item here and there failing but if customer service/support is pretty decent we seem to put up with things. Sad, but true.

You sort of have a point. But the bit about M$…please. You shouldn’t read to far into it. Would you like me to put Playstation 3 instead of PS3? or Television instead of TV or maybe laugh out loud for lol ?!

sorry this comment was a reply to ‘a inferior race’ on page 1

MS would be a politer abbreviation.
a inferior race
Bunimo puts it quite nicely and it makes any argument or points you raise appear more valid.

Game desperately trying to rake in more cash as they are in financial trouble.
If they are around by the end of the this year in their current form I will be surprised.

Wasn’t the M$ abbreviation used long before they even went into consoles?Back when they were eating companies like netscape and such,i’m sure it was those damn linux fanboys that coined the term.
It’s imo Xbox live needs to be better than psn because its a pay for service,it could be argued that users are actually paying for a gateway service to peer to peer game servers and don’t have any actual internet service other than that ‘allowed’ by microsoft.
Don’t get me wrong end of the day i love gaming but Microsoft as a corporate have stunk since day one.

Indeed, the nickname “M$” was around well before the Xbox was. I don’t think it’s creation was anything to do with Linux users though. Could be wrong. It’s just one of those things people leap on as nowdays, anyone who says anything critical about Microsoft = Sony fanboy apparently. I’d feel more sympathy for people who get upset by the sight of the nickname if in most cases it didn’t seem to be people who display such wild double standards that throw a strop about it.
One of those things that comes with the territory if you go near any kind if gaming forum though I guess.

If anything putting the $ is ironic when it comes to gaming, because MS haven’t been able to leverage their OS & Office software dominance into the world of gaming and have made nothing more than a loss all the way through.
No one writes $ony or SonÂ¥ so….

Even 80 quid seems a bit of a disgraceful price to offer for the 60gb machines. I’ve seen people easily sell 20gb originals for near double that through local ads and online selling.
Places like Game take the piss far too much on trade in values and people are far too easily led by the promise of an instant cash in on their goods to seriously think about the deals they’re taking.

there seems to be an awfull lot of game hate here , i always buy from game for many reasons. 1) they offer a reward scheme which gives reasonable value. 2) they are generally cheaper on pre-orders and online purchases than most other places (i wont go into howe massively overpriced HMV is in the shops as apposed to game).
in a time where money is low and taxes are higher, anything that offeres me a reward for buying a game in all for…
as for game not being around by xmas, id love to see your facts as they seem to do alot of business and with their prices ill keep buying from them.
and as for trade in prices, as i buy from game regularly i feel that 130 quid cash for ps3 or 150 quid store credit for ps3 i know which ill pick every time.. store credit for the win.

I like GAME they service their demographic incredibly well.
You don’t end up one of the largest retailers in the world without doing stuff right.

I do believe Game also own Gametstation which seems to be aimed more towards the indie end of the market,if they do then they pretty much cover alot of video game sales.I wouldn’t trade in a console anyways, they’ve always had very low trade value in the U.k and i guess your right in saying it reflects the current economy.
OneShotWook
Bah Typoed Gamestation sorry.
