Kinect Pricing Announced

Microsoft have just announced the pricing for Kinect here in the UK. There’s two bundles – a console, Kinect and Kinect Adventures for £249.99 and without the console for £129.99.

“Get all of your controller-free entertainment in one complete package,” says the press release. “This includes the all-new Xbox 360 4GB console, the revolutionary Kinect sensor and the Kinect Adventures game.  In Kinect Adventures, you’ll get to navigate roaring rapids and mountain-top obstacle courses, and experience numerous other adventures in exotic locations.”

More than 15 games will be available at launch – Kinect games, including Kinectimals, Kinect Sports and Kinect Joy Ride, will retail for £39.99.

“Kinect for Xbox 360 offers fantastic new ways to be entertained for the whole family,” said Chris Lewis, vice president, Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Europe. “With full body, voice and multiplayer play straight out of the box, Kinect is a unique way for everyone to enjoy controller-free fun and entertainment.”

  1. I was strongly considering it, but at that price I’ll have to wait ’til there’s some kind of drop… Over £100 is too high in my opinion.

  2. I always thought it was a typo but can someone explain the 4GB to me? That’s not the HDD, is it? That would be atrocious!

    • no, it’s 4GB of data that can be viewed on the console. After that you are locked into a data plan that works out at about £8 per GB…

      • Sorry, I don’t understand. “viewed on the console”?

      • I’m joking. Sorry.

    • To be clear its a 4GB hdd/flash memory in a Xbox360 slim format, the only difference I can see is the drop from 250GB to 4GB.

The Wii has 512mb internal memory and can accept SD cards (upto 2GB) so it competes quite well in that respect.

However, nothing the Wii does really requires more than that memory, so if you were buying the 4GB 360 purely for kinect then I reckon it will be enough. But considering the Xbox360 has so much more to offer, it’s a little like neutering it so it’s more restricted without a further upgrade.

On another note, are the Xbox360 slim HDD’s replaceable and what format do they take are they the same/similar to the old ones?

      • It’s not the same as the old HDD which is annoying, it’s a new proprietary one. Does suck that you can’t take your old HDD over.

Also you can just use any USB drive in the 360 now, and store anything you want on it.

      • ooh, that’s very interesting. I didn’t realise you could use any external HDD with them. You said you can put anything you want on them? Does this include XBLA games and games that have an install to HDD option? If it doesn’t I wasn’t being sarcastic by asking, I’m just interested as I have a 500GB ext drive hanging around so a 4gb Xbox slim might appeal to me.

      • It accepts flash drives up to 16GB, I think. I’m sure it doesn’t accept “proper” HDDs of any noteworthy size.

      • Oh, and thanks for the explanation. I’m gobsmacked with the storage size. Feels like they’re going backwards, not forwards, with that one.

  3. looks like they’re targeting the rock band market with that price actually

  4. Hold off criticising MS just yet though as I heard a rumour that price was going to include a HD-Dvd drive.

  5. No no no no no no no waaaaaay too high

  6. Oh. my. life!!

  7. Core users are laughing and casual users have now clue, so the bundle will properly go quite well in December.

  8. The worst thing about all this is that people will actually buy it. Shocking!

  9. Who in their right mind would pay £40 to finger an imaginary tiger?

    • You have made me laugh harder than I have in a long time..
      Thank you :L

  10. Not really convinced about its real gaming application regarding “normal” games.
