So you know the story, Pachter says Activision will make Black Ops multi-player a premium feature in some form, Activision and Treyarch deny everything about it. Swings and roundabouts. Imagine my surprise when reading an item on THQ’s plans to tackle pre-owned games (which we covered here) that MCV writer Ben Parfitt slipped this little bombshell in to the article.
MCV has been lead to believe that Activision IS preparing to announce a premium multi player component for Call of Duty: Black Ops, and that the announcement could be made by next month.
This is not the first time MCV have sneaked out by hiding it in another article, they casually let slip about the PSPGo back in May last year and some eagle eyed TSA reader picked up on it. As I pointed out back then, ‘MCV is a business site, they don’t make crap up.’
Let’s wait for official confirmation before we completely freak out though, shall we?

I just hope SOMETHING is announced soon so that everyone can stop guessing! IF something is to be announced, I’d say it’s pretty likely we’ll hear about it on September 1st, which is the date of the “full multiplayer reveal” as stated in yesterday’s trailer…
Bilbo_bobbins
If it’s true, then thats made my mind up of not buying the game.
ttuna
Exactly. I don’t see how they could get away with charging £55 for the game and then more for the online.
cc_star
Shop around more ;)
Bilbo_bobbins
yeah I wouldn’t pay that anyway, I got it for £25 last time, but thats not the point. I’m not giving them ammo to try and charge more for something we have already paid for. Unless it’s cheaper.
bajere
If its true then it might make up my mine to BUY the game! Cant stand MP, so if they do this, then maybe that means they have actually put some effort into the SP which could be cool!
Tuffcub

JoshHood
I’m going with lunatic.
Tuffcub
Little of both, though I’m erring on the former today.I’ve actually got all the orginal studio recording parts for Le Freak…. :D

One of my all time favourite tracks. Cheers TC!
gordon_strange
shouldn’t that be ‘fuck off’ as the original version states in it’s call to arms against a particular seminal new york club’s prohibitive door policy??

Given Treyarch & Activision’s denials it’s surely just some form of single use code included in initial purchase, and chargeable to anyone who buys pre-owned?
Bilbo_bobbins
i reckon you’re right here. They wanted something similar to EA so it’s probably something like that.
JoshHood
I was pretty surprised we didn’t see this with MW2 actually.
BerackyWack
Exactly cc. That is the only logical thing because surely no-one is gonna buy a game to then pay again for multiplayer. If they want to do that then they shud release multiplayer seperately warhawkesque.
Tuffcub
Saldy I agree with Pachter – I think it’s clans that are going to have to play.
Bilbo_bobbins
maybe extra for the video editing stuff or something? Just a thought.
cc_star
Given that clans aren’t currently supported in Call Of Duty that could be something they introduce, that way people can carry on playing CoD how they always have and not be penalised by any extra cost, but those who want extra can pay for the extra.
If you’re right, perhaps it will usher in a an Activision version of Virgin Gaming? Clans, competitions & prize tourneys?
JoshHood
I think the denials were something along the lines of ‘you will not have to pay to play’ – could this be some higher tier?
tonycawley
I reckon they’ll make massive losses on it if it’s true. Literally millions of people will boycott the game, myself included.
bigdon_23
Since the war on preowned games started i have only bought preowned games, so i guess i wont be picking this up
Klart
Ooh, you rebel. Che has nothing on you.
Tuffcub
Post Of The Week!

Which gets me…?

Maybe its just me but life as a gamer these days is a lot like being in a specific scene from Pulp Fiction, where Kotick play’s Z, Brian Farrell plays the shopkeeper, Pachter plays the gimp and we collectively play the part of Marcellus Wallace.
Only difference is that no-one is playing the part of Butch to come along and save us
Bankzy108
Haha great reference and so true.
